The quote of Zellnik in your piece says a lot: "I get upset when Israel is portrayed as the homeland... I do feel tremendous sadness and engagement with Israel. My first memories of it, as a conscious human being, was the first intifada." I wish this bias, evident throughout the play, was in the advertising for it or conceded in the TalkBack that night. Against Zionism and suffering from a shortened historical perspective. An abundance of quotes is no substitute for history or memory, as any lawyer will tell you. This play does not pretend to search for the truth. It has found truth and presents it, mostly in two dimensions. I wish the program had included the quote, if accurate, that Zellnik gets "upset when Israel is portrayed as the homeland." It's a free country. He can say it. There are some beautifully written places in this play. One doesn't have to be "non-lily-livered" to think so.
