Sen. Joe Biden’s refrain these days is that the violence in Iraq requires a "political solution." I.e., it’s not religious fanaticism, it’s not Islamofascism, it’s not a clash of civilizations, it’s not a war on terror; suicide bombers are motivated by disputes over power-sharing and territory.
Many Democrats are echoing this theme. Chuck Hagel, too, I believe. Will these politicians apply that lesson to Israel/Palestine? Ever since 9/11, the right in Israel has rejoiced that the U.S. has joined their battle–we are in the same boat as the Israelis. It is time to apply our experience of Iraq to their miserable situation in Israel/Palestine, and conclude that the violence there is not the result of antisemitism or a war of east vs. west, or primitive Arabs vs. modern Israelis, but the result of territorial dispute–occupation.

If somebody pays Biden et al more then AIPAC is paying them to NOT thinking of a political solution to Israel/Palestine, maybe.
Today in Riyadh the Arab League is repeating the peace offer it first made in 2002. Watch the coverage in the media and the attention paid by our politicians. That will be a good indicator of the current health of the lobby.
Last time, Israel flatly rejected it, the U.S. government ignored it, and Americans were never told of it.
Phil,
I think that Arab nations are now free of any outside oppressions.
Only this time, the Saudi Wahhabi and the Iranian Shi'ite money is poisoning their societies.
The terrorists of Iraq, are simply gangs of primitive human beings, incited by Saudi and Iranian agents.
The only solution is, to reform the Saudi and Iranian regimes, which shamelessly intervene into the internal affairs of many countries: Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, and the former Soviet republics.
Finally, the Wahhabi money should not reach the USA Muslim communities. It is a disaster for all of us, Muslims and non-Muslims.

I know a number of Iraqis who might differ,
I'm only just discovering your site (a link from Muzzlewatch). It's terrific – truly a breath of fresh air.
I agree with your post completely.
Good luck! I'll be a regular reader, and I'll add a link to your site at mine.

Ha! no money coming to the US muslim communities, while billions and billions of the petro-dollars flow back to enrich the military and finance our debts.
