It's a courtroom farce and I thought it more or less funny until the Jewish character and his gentile lawyer get into an argument in which the lawyer calls his client a "kike." The client responds in kind. Thereafter the insults flew both ways so fast and furious the majority Jewish aduience laughed themselves out of their seats.</p> <p>I was disappointed. I could not have admired Mamet's talents more more after "Glengarry Glen Ross." In this play, I noted, it is the gentile character who throws out the first bigoted remark (not suprising, I now know, given Mamet's particularist agenda). </p> <p>Mamet has a great talent and a wonderful ear but he will never be a great writer.
