The ideology existed; many people were zionists. But many more people were simply driven by the feeling, this is finally the opportunity when they could get themselves some land without paying for it. Somehow it is right and just that someone else's property should belong to them.

Indeed.

Phil, thank you for coming to this event.

Konrad is remarkable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyorgy_Konrad
(Minor mistakes?)
http://www.arithmeum.uni-bonn.de/en/events/207
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gy%C3%B6rgy_Konr%C3%A1d
http://www.jgytf.u-szeged.hu/~raczl/konradeletrajz.htm

Through many small episodes, each a scathing criticism of the barbarism and incompetence, he has made me clear that Hungary has been and remains a colossal failure.

And the many gifted Hungarians can not change my impression.

The same way, according to the same formula, I can line up some other historical failures, countries like Iran, Iraq, Romania, Russia...

All places find themselves in eternal trouble, where decency is rare, and greed governs.

Just one more caution, when you meet people from any of the failing countries, have a healthy does of suspicion of their character, because most of them remain corrupted or at least confused for life.

Otherwise, I am happy. -:(
