I don't think there is anything wrong with being emotionally involved with Israel, but I don't think it's a good idea to make such a person Middle East correspondent for America's newspaper of record — it just might tend to bias the coverage a little. (By the way, it was executive editor and ultra-Zionist Abe Rosenthal who made Friedman the paper's first Jewish correspondent to the area. Before that, common sense had prevailed.)

So "common sense" procludes making a Jew a news correspondent to Israel? What other professions would you like to see them banned from David?
