Lindsay Lohan Defines Privacy

Here’s something about celebrity. In the latest New York Magazine, there’s a good piece about Heath Ledger’s last several months. Depending on the narrative you believe–official or subversive–he was either a rudderless wreck indulging himself in drugs, women and song, or he was a good unpretentious kid trying to stay humble and straight. (I buy the subversive, predictably). Writer Chris Norris says that in his last three months, Ledger may have had a relationship with Lindsay Lohan.

As you must know, elsewhere in the same issue, Lohan is nude, recreating the famous last sitting of Marilyn Monroe with Bert Stern. She’s showing off her voluptuous body, baring her breasts, her Venus of Willendorf thighs, etc. Beautiful. Not that she comes forward at all in the Ledger article.

So New York Magazine was able to call on Lohan for her body but not her secrets. Whatever she knows about Heath Ledger, she’s keeping to herself. Celebrity code of honor. Though it goes to show: your body is one thing to share, your thoughts are far more intimate…
