The explanations that the News offers for this trend are fatuous. Besides love of public service and competence, another explanation is that Jews are loyal Democrats. But blacks are, too, and they’re not represented in this manner. The true explanation involves class. Jews are highly successful and represent a large segment of the new meritocratic establishment. This fact is to be celebrated, but it also means that Jewish movers and shakers are not where they are by coincidence, no–because they are close to the levers of economic and social advancement. That means that we are responsible in new ways. When will we own this?
I disagree with you as to what constructs class.
I think the commitment and competence of service IS what constructs the basis of value of a public servant.
Those blacks that have adopted that value (and MANY have), have found paths to lead, to lead small groups and large groups.
If anything, you might be observing the phenomena of what happens when among a group that desires to serve well, the obstacles of artificial persecution are removed.
And, there is always the possibility of a new "WASP" elite imposing artificial barriers to entry. But, I don't hear you stating that, that leadership is a "Jewish club", at least not as the result of serious inquiry.
You and I are good examples. We were brought up to be engaged in our communities, to be educated and to not squander that education, to actually put it to use. We were not neglected, not set to the winds to just be on our own, sink or swim.
We were brought up to contribute to our communities, each in different forms, but mostly professional (serious and committed service).
Its a good thing.

Those are terrific Jewish values, Richard. I salute the competent Jewish public servants, and there are many. I also have no problem at all with a disproportionate representation of said, that is fine with me, I want the best, regardless of race.

In January 2003, AIPAC came to the KSG to recruit the summer's interns to spy on the Congressman for whom they are working. Now of course, AIPAC told us with a wink that the purpose was simply to keep congressmen informed with the best and most up-to-date information. And of course, the careers of anyone that did a good job would benefit immensely from this work.
Obviously, some group efforts are perfectly reasonable.
Others are not. A lot of the grief that Nadia Abu el Haj received was simply for staking out space in a territory that a lot of Jewish academics considered their own.
Well, the behavior of her persecuters was probably illegal, and the Federal, State and City government probably should have started an investigation.
Why didn't it happen? Could the presence of a large number of Jews in the government legal offices have been an issue? What about the all purpose charge of anti-Semitism?
A lot of what Israel advocates, the organized Jewish community and unofficial Jewish networks do crosses the line into civil infractions, tax code violations, FEC violactions, securities fraud and other crimes, conspiracy against rights and even into seditious conspiracy.
The behavior has a long history, and it is making conditions difficult in many professions for those that some group of Zionists does not like.

I am more inclined to side with Joachim. Phil, to his credit, acknowledges (and has been tenacious in exposing) the tremendous Jewish power in America and its secretive and sometimes subversive and sinister nature, but he seems to want to believe it has been earned honestly. (He sometimes wavers on the last, but he regularly mentions Jewish merit here).
Joachim understands the less attractive (for a Jew) reality: that Jews have attained their success largely through conscious ethnic collaboration with other Jews in conjunctions with the deliberate subversion of gentile institutions in order to gain power, wealth and control. Sometimes such collaboration amounts to mere nepotism, other times it borders on a mafia-like criminal enterprise and attempted ethnic monopoly. But it is an ongoing, organized program of subversion and co-option. Too much organized Jewish power stands as an example of why everyone should be wary of any powerful organization and should work to undermine hostile concentrations of power wherever they lie, but for Americans, the biggest threat right now comes from the concentration of organized Jewish power, as I think both Phil and Joachim are demonstrating.

The organizational dynamics that focuses on Israel is more evolved than consciously designed. It makes Israel Advocacy stronger than any constructed lobby.
A lot of the Jewish Federation groups are now carrying out tasks for which they were never intended.
There's lots of different opinions about what is best for society, and so there's lots of different lobbies squabbling with one another. But the kind of illegality that Joachim is talking about follows from the fact that the Israel lobby is a different kind of animal: it does not ultimately care about the best interests of the society.
Oh, I forgot to add, that, by advocating for a specific cause and not concerning itself with the best interests of society at large, the Israel lobby is unique. Every other lobby I can think of is, when all is said and done, fighting for society at large, not for a specific cause.

The Israel Lobby is probably unique among lobbies for foreign governments in that a foreign government does not pay for it and that it has generally operated with impunity.
In fact, legally AIPAC is not an agent of a foreign government, and many have complained, but I believe the legal status is correct because it follows the orders not of Tel Aviv but of a small group of wealthy group of Zionist American donors, for whom the State of Israel is a vehicle to greater wealth, status and power.
Anyway, Wexner, who has enmeshed Harvard University, in a probably major breach of the tax code, is a major political donor in Ohio as well as contributor to organizations that encourage Jewish identification like the Wexner Heritage Foundation.
All those Ohio Jews must not be doing a very good job governing because Ohio's economy is DEEP in the gutter (manufacturing and other jobs lost daily there; many Ohio natives are fleeing to the South) and the infrastructure is crumbling (Rust Belt state). The state ranks close to Michigan (i.e., near the bottom) in terms of the economy, building/construction, etc.
But I doubt many of Ohio's Jews see much of these problem because they don't live in THOSE neighborhoods — self-segregation indeed.
In Amy Chua's book, "The World On Fire," she relates how she made the discovery that 5 of the 6 Russian Oligarchs who monopolized big business in the restructured Russia were Jews. When she brought this to the attention of a Jewish colleague he became defensive, denying that their Jewishness was even an issue. But when she told her Jewish husband about her finding he said, "So what's the story on the OTHER guy? How did HE make the club?"

A friend of mine married a top Russian mathematician, who had studied at the University of Moscow.
I asked him about discrimination against Jews in the Soviet Union because I had taken part in demonstrations on behalf of Refuseniks.
He laughed at me, and told me that there were approximately 200 in his division at the University of Moscow, and there were perhaps five members that were officially Jewish but of the theoretically non-Jewish members, only he and one other colleague were really non-Jewish (i.e., not ethnic Ashkenazi). Russian Jews seem to have remained highly connected in the Soviet Union right until the end, and at least one Jewish Oligarch was a mathematician.

I am finding the influence of Jews in government and public offices very bad for America. I keep looking for those good influences Phil mentions but can't really find anything that exhibits any kind of moral or ethical leadership.
Everything I see like Holocaust Museum funds vrs other institutions and causes mentioned in a prior post keeps showing me that Jews seek postions to help Jews only, not to help everyone and not to help this country.
Jews use their positions to replace everything uniquely American with the mentality of the jews and their holocaust history, not America's.
There are some exceptions but they are very much the minority, not the majority.
It's getting hard to argue with all the old carnards when when we have so many present day examples of Jews acting only for themselves regardless of what country they live in.

If there is one thing I will never forget it was Chuck Shumer championing Bolton for the UN and telling his fellow senators that a vote against Bolton was "vote against Israel." Or the comment by Waxman that no one who doesn't support Israel will sit on his congressional committee.
That is a sign of how Orwellian this country has gotten, when a US senator(s) publically and regularly push the agenda of a foreign nation and it's suporters against the interest of the US. It may not legally be treason but to the average person it's clearly treason to have a higher loyalty to a tribe or other country over the one you are a citizen of.
The combination of Jews and the religious right for Israel and the neo hawks is the most sickening thing that has happened to my country in my lifetime. And the public also deserves blame for taking their country for granted and not paying closer attention to their government and letting America go astray.

Exit polls are a problematic source when it comes to the Jewish vote. The sample is always small – even in states like New York where 16% of the vote was Jewish. The margin of error is significant, and there is plenty of opportunity for correction as the actual results are analyzed and the polls are weighed to the official count of votes. That's why it is even more important to recheck these exit polls a couple of days after the dust has settled (check out pollster.com for Mark Blumenthal's explanation of exit polls).

If you do recheck those exit polls, get ready for some surprises. Last week, (actually, Tuesday late at night) I wrote about Clinton, Obama and the Jewish vote. In that article, I concluded that Obama won the Jewish vote in two states: Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Wrong: He won California as well, according to the updated exit polls.

In the article from the Super Tuesday night, I wrote about the numbers for California: "The Jewish vote in this state was 5 percent of the total, and also went to Clinton, but the margin was small – 48 percent for her, 44 percent for Obama (8 percent voted for no-longer-a-candidate Edwards)."
Here are the new numbers: Jews were 5 percent of the voters, but most gave their votes to Obama (49 percent) and not to Clinton (47 percent). The percentage of Jewish voters for the no-longer-candidate John Edwards (mostly early voters, I'd presume) is actually half than what was estimated last week: four percent.

Bottom line for Super Tuesday:
Clinton has won the Jewish vote in New York, New Jersey, and Arizona; Obama took Massachusetts, Connecticut, and California.
For the rest of the states there are no numbers as the percentage of Jewish voters was too small.
In a way, this makes my conclusion from last week even more accurate: "And here is another way to look at it: Clinton won the Jewish vote handily in her backyard (New York and New Jersey), but did not have such luck in other places. She won some, and lost some, but the margin in all places but those two backyard states was not significant."

Here's an insignificant anecdote that only highlights the problematic nature of all such estimates, and the even more problematic tendency of writers (like myself) to make a big deal out of these numbers. Look at the "Religion, combined Protestant and Other Christian, among Whites" rubric of the exit polls. What it essentially tells you is that among "Jewish whites" the vote was split: 48 percent for Obama, 48 percent for Clinton.

Right on. The election appears to be about class as well. The latte-drinking upper-middle-class white men and their college-age wannabes love Obama because he offers them a hit of their favourite American drug: amnesia — as in, let's just forget that America is in denial about the fact that it's a racist state. Indeed, that's why Americans have so easily fallen for the Jewish establishment's "Israel, right or wrong" policy: it offers the white American goyim yet another chance to pretend that race/ethnicity doesn't matter. Well, it matters. Both Blacks and Jews are not quite American enough, but at least Jews are white; and if there are any poor ones, they have the decency to maintain a low profile.
I don't think this election is about change at all. It's about the status quo with respect to the middle east — and especially Israel-Palestine relations. The military-industrial complex will continue to operate at full tilt, since wars and weapons are the only things the US can still export in impressive quantities — which means that Israel can continue to draw its 3bn in US aid, buy more weapons, kill more Palestinians, and drag its feet for another 4 to 8 years.
