Keating Responds to Witty!

Charles Keating responds to Richard's post of this a.m.re financial corruption being the issue, not the sex:

The possibility of corruption & conflict of interests certainly is there when a high level government official is paying call girls (look at their vulnerable backgrounds! Is it any wonder these young girls decide I will be the predator, not the prey, since that's  all American

system life offers me? That's not Spitzer's fault, just something he decided to take advantage of--not unlike Bill Clinton, or any mundane male employer-exploiter. If you want to jump to 9/11 & what the opportunity taken there was, go ahead). I think Witty get this., though

he ignores the Reichstag fire & the implications for today's political scene, heading towards the next general election.

    What is "Reichstag fire"?

    Spitzer's successor is highly regarded from what I've read.

    New York is a big and very political state.

    I'm not a New York resident, so don't know, nor follow New York politics closely at all.

    People make choices in their lives. All choices imply giving up something. I became an accountant, and professionally gave up the prospect of enterprise and creative time (I preserve a LOT in my personal life).

    A public figure gives up some of the "innocent" passions that a journalist, or accountant, or real estate lawyer might be able to do without consequence.

    Clinton's indiscretion itself was private (with some implications for employment related violations) that made itself public by likely perjury and public overt falsehood.

    Spitzer's IS public, as it implies a conflict of interest of office.
