I've been wondering why both Hillary and Alan Dershowitz are defending Spitzer. With Dershowitz it's undoubtedly because until a few days ago he thought Spitzer could be the first Jewish president. Hillary's support is more likely a way to solidify her support with those people who would have financed a Spitzer presidential run and who, she hopes, will in the meantime continue to support her.

Didn't spitzer go after prostitutes and thir clients himself? If so, what is this talk of Spitzer's nobility? Wouldn't he be more than just a dirtbag? I'd say that he would then be a hypocrite and a politician of the worst sort. He needs to rot in jail for abuse of power if what I have read is correct.

i think more thought ought to go into what we allow as government intrusion in the lives of "WE THE PEOPLE" than on the externals of this issue.

Spitzer was targeted by the corrupt DOJ, the same way Don Siegelman was targeted. Spitzer went aggressively after Wall Street cheats, Enron et al.

The thing is, when the "volunteer" DOJ investigators looked into Spitzer and were almost ready to make stuff up, just like in Siegelman's case - "holy cow! He really did have something hidden in his closet!" moment happened.

What interested me most about "Kristen" (other than what Phil called her "great rack") was her cited musical influences: Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, Carly Simon, Diana Krall, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Aerosmith, Lauryn Hill, Keisha Cole, U2, Jack Johnson, and Vivian Green. Clearly, she likes rhythm & blues, and soul music of both the white soul and black soul schools.

Like nearly every woman who goes into the biz, Kristen had a problematic relationship with her father. (Duh!) Music that cuts deep can be the only way for some people to access and articulate those tangled feelings.

Searches of "Spitzer" and "music" turn up his investigation of a payola scandal and, to his credit, that he made record companies pay $50 million in back royalties. But does he listen to music the way Kristen does? I would speculate that music is largely an abstract intellectual exercise for Spitzer. He craves a woman's touch because he can't feel the music.

As a visually impaired person, Spitzer's successor David Paterson likely has the enhanced sense of hearing which is the one of the compensations for reduced vision. It will serve him well in actually listening to the factions in Albany. One blog (If I Ran the Zoo) described Paterson as "articulate and almost musical in his ability to express himself. At the same time, he sounded relaxed and conversational, as if he was talking to exactly one person and making a vital connection to her [in the radio interview]."

Let the music roll.

While I think prostitution should probably be legalized mainly because it isn't ever going away and legalizing would give some control over it tax fraud and health requirement wise and people's sexual whatevers should be their own business.

But I can't feel any sympathy for poor little Kristen or Spitzer. Kristen chose to be a prostitute purely for the money knowing the hazards and the illegality of the trade...ditto Spitzer for his sexual situtation or problems.

They both did what they did period, but let's not keep lowering the character bar by making them into some kind of victims.
They are victims only of their own choices.
