Model/Whore

Gawker has the "Emperors Club" listing for "Kristen," the prostitute at the heart of the Spitzer story. It says that she is a "swimsuit model."

A friend of mine in the modelling business, at a good agency, once told me that the jobs sometimes bled into prostitution. That they were hired by a fancy company for a shoot, and then went out to dinner with the execs and were expected to put out. I imagine there is a ton of overlap between struggling models in New York and the high-end prostitution business. Hetaera. Emperors.

Charles Keating says that Kristen was a troubled person who was exploited. These statements seem to be true, esp given the info we now have about her background. It is also true that the beauty of models can and will produce great transfers of wealth. A friend of mine, a single woman of 50, says she wishes she could have gotten $x,000 for a couple hours work when she was younger. I’ve heard such comments before and wonder whether, given the inevitability of prostitution, it is best to legalize it and regulate it.
