Much to its credit, Commentary magazine has posted an annotated version of Efraim Karsh's piece on 1948. I urge all hackademics (to steal Avi Shlaim's wonderful word) to have a look at the footnotes. I'm going to.

Blogroll

From the article in Commentary:
"During the past decade or so, the actual elimination of the Jewish state has become a cause célèbre among many of these educated Westerners. The “one-state solution,” as it is called, is a euphemistic formula proposing the replacement of Israel by a state, theoretically comprising the whole of historic Palestine, in which Jews will be reduced to the status of a permanent minority. Only this, it is said, can expiate the “original sin” of Israel’s founding, an act built (in the words of one critic) “on the ruins of Arab Palestine” and achieved through the deliberate and aggressive dispossession of its native population."
What does this say about the USA as model, where, post-1965 Immigaration Act, a new world is a-coming, Obama leading the way? In the USA diversity is admired and pushed. If you don't agree, you are simply a redneck bigot, trying to hold onto fading institutional privilege. You probably live in some form of working class PA, holding on to God and Guns as Obama said. ("Praise God, pass the ammo.")
Now, who wants it both ways?
In another thirty years those who founded the USA and gave it its governing principles (admired the World over), will be a minority, as they already are in many places within the nation's land.
What's good for the goose, is not good for the gander?
How convenient.
Anyone interested in the history of the USA's immigration laws can find it easily.
There's a reason why there's not a dime's worth of difference in the three presidential candidates on this issue. The average American voter has no say at all.
Troubles in times of no decency.
Obama is the representative of some convoluted indecent political plotters, just to grab the power, and serve corrupt masters.
He will sell us out to the mob like his cousin Odinga in Kenya.
Our blog master, Phil is a nice but confused guy. Too much protest, too little solution, and too defensive, but not a defender of the real decency.
Let us insult the indecent leaders, but let us nurture the real enlightened decency.
Have we heard the word Enlightenment from Phil ever?
Consider this quote from Commentary:
"The “one-state solution,” as it is called, is a euphemistic formula proposing the replacement of Israel by a state, theoretically comprising the whole of historic Palestine, in which Jews will be reduced to the status of a permanent minority."
Excuse me. Pray tell, what is the implication of this remark? That Jews, can't surive when they are in the minority?
This flies in the face of reality. Around the world Jews are thriving as minorities.
Are we to believe that this is because of the existance of an exclusively Jewish state..Israel?
No the author msut mean that if the Palestinians become the majority they will seek revenge against the Jews. Why?
The author is mute on this point. Afraid no doubt that his listing of Palestinian grievances will validate their claims..
History on the other hand refutes this fear.
South Africa is the case in point. Its up to the Zionists to tell us why Palestine (with a non-Jewish majority) would not have a similar peaceful outcome.
"Have we heard the word Enlightenment from Phil ever?"
Not directly as far as I know, but indirectly via many of his assumptions. BTW, The Enlightenment is not part of general Jewish tradition, however Reform Judiasm incorporated part of its vision. Some Jews really do learn from some Gentiles. It's not always the other way around.
