Memo to ‘60 Minutes’ Producers: Take ‘The Israel Lobby’ to the Israel Lobby

To the guys and gals of Black Rock:
Respectfully, it's just a matter of time before you do the Walt & Mearsheimer story. It's just too important, and every week that goes by it becomes less radioactive and more conventional-wisdom. Also, after November, the story won't be quite as hot-button (or, sadly, as relevant) as it is now.
Yesterday I mentioned that W & M are going to Hebrew University next week, as Marty Peretz has helpfully reminded us. That should be a wild time. I expect them to be treated with respect at the school Judah Magnes founded.
And here's another angle you'd have to jump on now. AIPAC is holding its annual policy conference in Washington, June 2-4. A lot of passionate Jews, a lot of well-heeled lobbyists, a lot of people who hold no brief for Walt and Mearsheimer. You should send a producer over to the conference with a copy of the book. Have him–her, sorry!–just walk around with it and get a reaction. Or you could go up to folks and ask them about the book. You'd be sure to get some interesting reaction shots. Classic 60.

Most of the press is negligent at best at serving the people.
They have become the home of the fully paid-for press.

sixty minutes or any other newshour type program that does not do an in depth hard hitting investigation is obviously looking the other way.

at worst its a story that ought to be covered, like any other story.

How many of the "liberal hawk" journalists peddling the war were infected with love-of-israel disease? Or what percentage of them had this disease? Jeffrey Goldburg was surely one of the worst as he had credibility as a New Yorker writer. But there were many, many. Now it seems pretty obvious the crap they were peddling was dishonest. Not just wrong, but dishonest. Lies.Salon had a piece on what those hawks say now about their wrongness. Why does anyone care what they say now? The idea that Goldburg is being courageous for his shift on W&M is absurd. This man has an agenda and it is not truth. Can someone out there get inside his head and write his internal dialogue? I really want to know what these people were thinking, dreaming. Was it really all about security for Israel? Perpetrating this giant hoax on Americans would never be found out? We would be blindly by led to sacrifice our country for another one? I really don't want to get polemical I want to know. How much was conscious, how much was being led and deluded by passionate devotion to their particular gurus? Or was it cold, cynical, calculated?
