Journalists aren't supposed to declare a trend with just two examples but it occurred to me today that twice this spring I've blogged about New Republic editors who have performed services for the fearful AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. In March I noted that Peter Beinart, an editor at large at the august magazine, gave private talks to AIPAC groups, presumably for big bucks. They wouldn't let me attend. Then a couple weeks back I blogged about literary editor Leon Wieselter at the AIPAC policy conference talking about the Jewish future. I got to go this time. (Here's AIPAC's panel; I thought there was a link to the actual discussion).
At the risk of repeating the obvious–which has never stopped me before–I'd note that AIPAC is a lobbying group, a "controversial" one per Keith Olbermann, one that has nullified American policy visavis the illegal colonization of the West Bank for over 30 years, and TNR is a journalistic institution. (Though Zionism always comes first.) TNR boss Marty Peretz also plays a prominent role at Yivo, which joined TNR last year in trashing Walt and Mearsheimer, who had made the terrible mistake of criticizing AIPAC. These guys all share a devout interest. Obvious, yes, but worth noting.
You mean to say that editors at the New Republic are supporters of Israel. What evil Jewish plot will your fearless and tireless investigative journalism next uncover? I am on the edge of my seat!

Maybe Peretz and CanWest are hoping that AIPAC and associated organizations will provide TNR with increased add revenue so that the magazine will look more valuable than it really is and possibly be sold to someone
* that does not look too closely at the non-business connections between Peretz and the advertisers or
* that simply does not care much that the value of the magazine is being faked.

i just tried to watch the video of the boy being shot. apparently it isn't available anymore, but the caption is enough. a feeling washed over me. first of hope, yes, this IS like south africa and the truth will out. then anguish. because i see this kind of news and who else sees it? only a few. most are mourning tim russert. most regret this great newsman who would never ever deal with a story like this.
americans support israel because they are fed a crock of crap about its founding and are not being told the truth about what goes on in that land.

There is no reason to assume that 19th century German and Yiddish Jews were any less racist than Germans or other Eastern Europeans, and there are strong racist aspects to Yiddish Marxism, Occult Nationalist Zionism, Jabotinskian Zionism, and Labor Zionism.
