Is Bible-Thumping Lieberman Giving His Dem Backers Buyers’ Remorse, Aiding Obama?

Joe Lieberman praised Rev. John Hagee and read scripture to his Christian Zionist flock, comparing Hagee to biblical heroes, Miriam and Moses. He also referred to J Street’s use of Lieberman as a poster boy for the Israel lobby. “There has been a campaign to stop me, but the bond I feel to Pastor Hagee and to you is much stronger.”

The world’s changing: Two years ago a lot of rainmaking conservative Democratic Jews followed Moses I mean Joe Lieberman into the desert, supporting him after Ned Lamont beat him in Connecticut. With their support, Lieberman recaptured his seat in the general election. These same Dems supported Hillary over Obama and you have to wonder whether Lieberman’s pugilisitic and religious performances have given these Dems regrets, and thus persuaded them not to do to follow Lieberman this time around, to McCain, sticking with Obama. A game-changer?

Is it "religious performances" in general Jews don't like? Or is it just Christian religious performances?

I don't like Hagee because I think he perverts Christian doctrine into something that is foreign to what I think Christianity should be. He transforms it into something tribal, whereas the essence of Christianity is universalism and humanism. But I wonder sometimes if Jews have trouble simply with other Jews publically acknowledging or praising Christianity at all… Most so-called Jewish liberals I know enjoy making fun of Christians and what they see as Christian provincialism. Jews who don't make fun of Christians must seem completely oxymoronic to them. I am not sure whether Lieberman would not be hated just as much were he to praise a prominent Episcopalian or other mainstream Christian denomination. In other words, making common cause with Christians at all is at least half of why Lieberman is looked at askance in Jewish liberal elite circles.

Does anyone believe that Lieberman is serious when he praises Hegee or the fundies? I would think that his Jewish supporters understand what he is doing and vote for him as long as he does their bidding better than anyone else.

I don't get the appeal of Lieberman. He can hardly speak, which would be fine if his ideas were good. But bullshit presnted in a slow monotone just doesn't look or sound official. I gusee he's supposed to come off as the earnest used car salesman?

To this day I cannot understand why Al Gore in 2000 picked this war mongering Zionist fanatic as his running mate?

Al Gore actually thinks David is not Goliath in the modern age. In short, he's never thought much at all. He picked the Environment to ride because it was easy, relatively speaking.
