Biden's a good man and the right choice for Obama.
Obama will win, and his winning will result in good governance.
I remember being at the aipac convention a few years ago and Biden was the keynote speaker. That alone has to bury him with the Phil Weiss fan base.
Richard were/are you in favor of Sen. Bozo's proposal to divide Iraq in three?
(Most of my zionist friends like the idea very much–more proof that this was a war for oil, you might say.)
Biden dodged the Vietnam war, voted for the Iraq war, and is a backer of a wider Georgian/Russian war.
Biden's proposal, which insists on the euphemism "federalism" in lieu of "partition", but effectively separates Iraq into three regional governments, was authored with none other than the brilliant Leslie Gelb, CFR head-honcho, longtime Pentagon apparatchik, and zionist warmonger extraordinaire, who had the prescience to declare to the AP in 2003 on the eve of war,
"I'm in favor of [the invasion]…. It's the best medicine for anti-Americanism around the world I can imagine."
The silver lining here is that Sen. Bozo does have a son, Beauzo Jr, capt. of the Delaware National Guard, who's due to be deployed to Mesopotamia in October, 2008. He's also the Attorney General of Delaware, and one presumes he'd like to return to the U.S. outside of a coffin.
Let us hope that Beauzo, at least, has his daddy's ear. (Since we the people obviously do not.)
.
It says a lot about Barack Obama that he chose to run with 'Windsock Joe' Biden, who constitutes living proof that a mammal can exist without a spine. One has to think that Barry (if I may take the liberty of familiarity, Senator) has chosen a man in his own image — a pretty face and an empty suit.
But there are three other troubling aspects of Barry's choice:
1. Instead of reaching out to the provinces for a running mate, Obama selected a fellow Senator — at a time when Congress enjoys an approval rating of nine (9) percent. From the founding of the country until recently, the Senate — mindful of its constitutional role in approving treaties — acted as the president's partner in shaping foreign policy. But during the Bush reign, the Senate has completely defaulted on its responsibilities, acting as a supine rubber stamp for Bush's adventurism. And Barry and Joe helped!
2. Obama wants to project a populist flavor to court working folks and minorities. But the Senate is a notorious millionaires' country club. What do working people have in common with a well-coiffed popinjay like Biden?
3. Biden, like Obama, is a lawyer. This is already starting to remind me of the master pettifogger Bill Clinton, who was married to a lawyer, selected a lawyer running-mate, and appointed a cabinet of which 16 of 17 were lawyers. The extremely limited, undiversified perspective of Clinton's phalanx of lawyer- advisors helped produce some of the tone-deaf political blunders which got the fledging Clinton administration off to a memorably rocky start during its first week.
So — two millionaire lawyer Senators, working tirelessly to improve the lot of the common man. YEAH, RIGHT! And I just fell off that thar turnip truck!
I find this slate about as appealing as — to quote ol' Lyndon Brownnose Johnson — a pitcher of warm spit. Eff 'em both!
.
MM — "Beauzo Jr" — laughin' my ass off!
'Beauzo' is unqualified to serve in Mesopotamia, on the grounds that he's an invertebrate.
And OMG, he's a lawyer, too!
THAT'S ENOUGH LAWYERS, LORD!
He actually needs somebody who knows how to work congress. Consider Obama's record. He's only been there 4 yrs. He doesn't show up to work much. And when he does he doesn't generally vote yes or no on anything.
At least we know that Biden is a Zionist.

Jim, our prayers have been answered!
You don't need your dot anymore. There is an automatic empty line and thus space now.
Jack Lang seems to consider this not such a bad choice. But then, lately he pondered if McCain's empty but alluring bites won't be dangerous for Obama in the end.
Warren – "What is worth fighting for (paraphrase)?" McCain – "Freedom!" (followed by other words about national interest, etc.) Warren – "There is evil in the world. What should we do about it?" McCain – "Defeat it!" This is neocon Jacobin koolaid in a "high proof" form.
Everyone that is running for national public office has an ego, panders to an extent, makes compromises towards accomplishment.
Biden is a great complement to Obama. Obama is the boss, unlike with Bush/Cheney.
BOTH are competent to be president, unlike the past administration, in which neither were.
As McCain promises to continue the vast majority of the past administration's policies and methods, its a great good that Obama picked someone that will actually contribute to his presidency, and cover his back, and get him elected confidently.
I do love Jack Lang's little anecdotes, I only copy the end:
Biden is a fighter, and a screamer.
In any event, I meant it when I said that Biden is a "sledgehammer." His argumentation is logical, passionate and usually (unlike the occasion mentioned,) delivered behind a screen of civility spread across a vast hostility. He is undeterred by unending reminders of events long gone by.
McCain likes to call people "my friend" when he is working himself into a rage. Biden referred to McCain as "my friend" several times today at Springfield, Illinois.
I think HE should debate McCain. I would pay to see that from the front row. pl
If I were McCain, I'd be quaking.
Biden KNOWS McCain's history, personal and political weaknesses.
He also knows his strengths, independance, which he has voluntarily dropped in this campaign.
That which he constructs on his own is flawed. That which he relies on others to construct is flawed.
What's left?
Biden is an outstanding choice.
THAT'S WHY the haters and the repugs are screeching.
They are shooting wildly with their name-calling –skittering to and fro hurling absurd insults.
Yes, there are embarrasing misstatements and missteps in Biden's past.
It doesn't matter.
His basic decency and likability, his vast knowledge and experience — THOSE are what will impress the American people and help with Obama's election!
Some talking heads yesterday attributed Obama's main motive for hiring was to reach the "embittered" white working class folk, as distinguished from gaining a gloss of foreign policy experience.
Here's some memorable quotes from Biden:
The Democrats' support for Israel "comes from our gut, moves through our heart, and ends up in our head. It's almost genetic." (October 5, 2006)
"There has never been progress in the Middle East without the United States acting as a catalyst. The fact of the matter is that our good offices are important. The fact as the matter is that I would not do anything that I did not coordinate with the Israeli government. I would not pretend to be anything other than we are. Arabs know where we are and all they want to know is that we are going to, in fact, be blanced and fair about it. I think we can still establish that…My point is that we should have some very important person on the ground there, ready to explore all the initiatives, any serious person in the government thinks it might be worth considering. We should be a catalyst here." (October 5, 2006)
"Because of our lack of a prevention strategy, we're left with no option here, in my view, but to support Israel in what is a totally legitimate self-defense effort." (Washington, July 16, 2006)
"The outcome [of the Palestinian elections] reflects Palestinian anger and frustration at the Palestinian Authority and Fatah for their corruption, mismanagement, and failure to provide law and order." (January 2006)
"Israel cannot be expected to negotiate with a party that calls for its destruction, engages in terrorism and maintains an armed militia. Hamas must choose: bullets or ballots." (January 2006)
Excellent, helpful posts above.
Obama/Biden? Blah.
I will vote for Cynthia McKinney.
Obama actually worked in congress for only two years.
An example of what the current congress mostly does can be illustrated by say the month Of January last–about half the month they agreed to take sequential days recess, especially in the first half of the month; the only production during the entire month, with a bunch at the end of the month, all related to resolutions renaming post offices and recognizing various sports teams for winning.
Biden declared himself a Zionist on Israeli TV in 2007, as one of the posters referenced above. Will that come up during the main election campaign against McCain? Seems at least worthy of mentioning to the American public in view of the Iraq war and the drumbeat against Iran, no? Is Biden for Israel security only, or Israeli expansionism? Continued expansion as the only way to secure Israel? If we don't get this issue discussed during this presidential campaign, the bankrupt American middle class and working class have themselves to blame. They could use a little
help from the Fourth Estate to force the candidates to talk about
it here, not just to Israeli TV watchers.
So what your saying is that a candidates position on Israel is your litmus test. No matter what else he thinks about anything else. Anything at all.
If Witty and SOG are so supportive, I'm starting to worry.
Israel is not the one issue to decide by, but it is certainly a powerful indicator of a candidate's integrity and willingness to speak truthfully to power (AIPAC for one).
SOG doesn't do the Israel litmus test. He wants to know what the candidates think of all the other issues, first. Israel is a distant consideration, if any.
I do appreciate the sarcasm. All I'm asking is why is it Ok for Keating and Ed to make a candidates position on Israel the overriding concern and not me. And while I'm still for McCain out of all the Democrats I always liked Biden
Sword,
You should vote for Obama. Under McCain, the economy would recover for a short period then seriously nosedive, for failure to reform significant very incompetently constructed and managed institutions.
Bush divested of the responsibility to govern.
The US would not be able to be a friend to Israel or to anyone with the fiscal state that would occur 3 years into a McCain presidency.
That was the goal of the old cons primarily, and particularly the "libertarian" wing, "starve the beast".
I was never a fan of Biden for president. Some of his comments on a variety of issues really offended me.
I do think that Obama/Biden as partners in an administration with Obama the boss and Biden the willing and able vp, is a great combination.
A great complement in competency and judgement. Enough diversity of opinion to actually get multiple concerns voiced, and not just to vet out the politics.
Can't do it Rich, it's not just about Israel. I truly believe that Putin, the Chinese, the Iranians, the North Koreans, and all our other enemies would roll right over us. Capital gains taxes would go up, not to mention other taxes. And I don't like this citizen of the world stuff. The housing bubble was Greenspans faulr. And the credit crisis. Well there is more than enough blame to go around there.
"Capital gains taxes would go up"
Good! Why shouldn't they?!!
All I'm asking is why is it Ok for Keating and Ed to make a candidates position on Israel the overriding concern and not me.
Of course it's ok for you to make Israel the overriding concern.
I only wish all zionists were as honest as you are, sore.
And if you think John McCain is going to outmaneuver Putin on the grand chessboard, pass that dutchie over here bigboy, I need a hit a that!
You don't raise taxes in a recession.
And you think Obama can handle Putin, the Chinks, Chavez, and all the rest of them. Really.
McCain is proposing raising the social security tax. That is raising taxes.
Allowing the federal subsidy of speculation (capital gains) to sunset is necessary to restore long-term health to the economy.
There are GREAT ways to encourage investment using taxation during a recession that are direct. They are to afford reduced capital gains rates on classes of stock representing new investment in new enterprise, plant and equipment.
Obama/Biden can certainly handle Putin, Chinese, Chavez.
Much better than Johnny one-note.
And you think Obama can handle Putin, the Chinks, Chavez,
What the hell is Gideon talking about? Are they gonna play horseshoes to see if the U.S. empire can continue to economically subjugate the world with its faller dollar?
Well… I like Obama's chances against Chavez at the very least. Unless it's a bombast competition–then Barack might be in trouble.
Is it just me or does someone need to update Gideon that WWII and the Cold War have ended?
