I agree with Todd. There is a demonstration or protest almost every day in most Latin American capitals and big cities, and the local media cover it.

In the U.S. a million people gathered in several cities before the invasion of Iraq, and it got what, 3 inches? A12?

I read about this story this morning in the Christian Science Monitor.

The NY Times has been run into the ground. They still have some good reporters, but the Times today is little more than a lifestyle daily for rich liberals.

The LA Times is the only other national US paper besides the CSM that I trust.

(The CSM was the first US paper to break the story on the existence of the W-M Israel Lobby report.)

Seek out the films made in the last decade by Adam Curtis for the BBC.

In particular, The Century of the Self deals brilliantly with the post-war project to keep Americans dumb and malleable.

Also recommended is The Power of Nightmares, about the symbiotic rise of the American neocons and radical Islamicists.

James North has a correction: I learned today, after I posted, that president Felipe Calderon has somehow maintained his popularity, at just over 60 per cent. I was mistaken to described him as "unpopular."
Thanks for the comments. Todd: I use "ignorant" to mean not knowing the facts, mainly because no one communicates them to you.

People from other countries can be better informed, because they don't matter, they can't change global politics. Americans have to be kept ignorant because we do matter, we could change global politcs. The U.S. media has to work harder to draw the line.

This has to be repeated.

There were HUGE demonstrations in Chicago that did NOT get covered; I remember a TV story about them running a whole of 3 seconds.
