Something else about "60 Minutes." Tonight it did a segment on Bob Woodward's new book on Iraq, which of course is being published by CBS's sister company. Anyway, Woodward offered as a bombshell that the U.S. has techniques for targeted assassinations of Al Qaeda figures in Iraq, and then left it at that. It's a national security issue, he said, he wasn't going to draw the curtain all the way. Shocker!
The amazement to me here is that Israel does targeted assassinations all the time, and no one here raises an eyebrow. If these techniques are so anathema–and I think they are, they are never surgical, they always breed hatred–then why isn't Israel's method also anathematized? I'd point out that in the Ahmadinejad transcript above, the Iranian president also scores the Israelis for "targeted assassinations." That line was cut by 60 Minutes. But I guess these techniques don't go over so well in the Muslim world..

For Israel, targetting terrorists has worked wonders:
THE WAY WE LIVE NOW: ISRAEL PROVES THERE IS A MILITARY SOLUTION TO TERRORISM
…Anyone who visits Jerusalem today will not see the ghost town it was in 2002, when Israel was absorbing an average of one suicide bombing a week.
… How did things improve so dramatically, and so quickly, for Palestinians and Israelis alike? Begin by recalling Israel's assassination, in late March, of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. At the time, the action was all but universally condemned as reckless and counterproductive. "By granting Yassin the martyrdom he craved, the Israelis have provided a motive for new suicide attacks," went an editorial in the normally pro-Israel Daily Telegraph of London. "More young Palestinians will fall in love with death, and more Israeli civilians will die with them."
Yet what followed for Israel were nearly six consecutive terror-free months. This wasn't because the Palestinian terror groups lacked for motivation to carry out attacks. It was because they lacked for means. The leaders of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Yasser Arafat's own al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades had to spend their time figuring out how to survive, not on planning fresh attacks. The Israeli army incarcerated terror suspects in record numbers–some 6,000 now sit in Israeli prisons–which in turn helped yield information for future arrests. Most importantly, the security fence has begun to make the Israeli heartland nearly impenetrable to Palestinian infiltrators. (August's double suicide bombing in Beersheba happened precisely because there is still no security fence separating that town from the Palestinian city of Hebron, from where the bombers were dispatched.)
Taken together, these measures prove what a legion of diplomats, pundits and reporters have striven to deny: that there is a military solution to the conflict.
GEN. AMIDROR: TARGETED KILLINGS WORK
…Gen. Amidror, speaking on Army Radio, quoted the "precise statistics" of a study by Prof. Ben-Yisrael of Tel Aviv University, showing that "we used to have a full 140 deaths a month, and we were able to bring it down to 50 a year – without even a kilometer of fence."
Amidror explained that this achievement was enabled in two stages: "First by re-conquering Judea and Samaria [in 2002], and then, three months later, by arresting or killing terror leaders… It causes them to spend their time finding hiding places, instead of planning terror attacks."
Even USA Today admits it:
'TARGETED' STRIKES LOWER DEATHS
:-)
The clandestine targeting capability he is talking about is probably some refinement in electronic eavesdropping capabilities. They're probably usindg DSP to electronically single out one voice in the many that are overheard.
Btw, wasn't that a sorry-ass interview if ever there was one? Pelley neglected to identify the two main reasons why violence is down:
1. The Awakening Councils. The USA has put the Sunni insurgents on the American payroll and accepted their terms for a truce, which happen to include arming the former Sunni insurgents.
2. The ethnic cleansing in Baghdad is almost complete. The disappearance of the Sunnis means no possibility of sectarian violence.
Honestly, the public would be a lot better informed if it could listen to Dahr Jamail, Juan Cole, and Scott Horton on Antiwar.com/radio. Scott Pelley sucks. Woodward isn't much better. He is withholding a great deal of little known but highly relevant information.
"GEN. AMIDROR: TARGETED KILLINGS WORK"
Things that "WORK" in the short term might not "WORK" so well in the longer term. Chattel slavery worked quite well for the plantation owners but led to the devastation of the Civil War, and the necessary racism poisened the body politic to this day. Nazism got the German economy moving but the Germans were not happy with the ultimate result. The US A-bombing of Japan got them to accept unconditional surrender but left us with nuclear proliferation and the balance of terror.
Targeted killings cut down terrorism but might poison the well enough to make it impossible for Jews to remain in Palestine in the long term.
Paul Easton,
Things that "WORK" in the short term might not "WORK" so well in the longer term.
It has worked for years. Nothing else does.
Nazism got the German economy moving but the Germans were not happy with the ultimate result.
I love the Nazi imagery because it's so germane:
THE PALEOS OPENLY SUPPORTED NAZI GERMANY THEN
MEIN KAMPF FOR SALE NOW IN ARABIC: A BESTSELLER IN THE PLO-OCCUPIED PARTS OF ISRAEL
HERE ARE ARAB NAZIS IN NEW YORK TODAY
Targeted killings cut down terrorism but might poison the well enough to make it impossible for Jews to remain in Palestine in the long term.
There's no such thing as "Palestine"; not in the short-term and not in the long term. There is only Israel and Jews WILL remain here in OUR land.
If the Arabs can't live here in peace, then they can't live here at all. Tell the folks on Atlantic Avenue to get ready for more.
"the U.S. has techniques for targeted assassinations … Shocker! … If these techniques are so anathema …"
This premise seems a bit off. In November 2002 in Yemen, a car carrying several men, including a U.S. CITIZEN from Lackawanna, New York, was blown up by a U.S. Predator drone.
If Americans aren't bothered by their president/capo being able to rub out any citizen he wants at will, then nothing is going to disturb them.
By the way, isn't the adjectival form of the noun anathema 'anathemic'? Or was you just suckin' up to Sarah Palin by manglin' your grammar, LOL?
As I write, there is news that the U.S is sending a senior official to Afghanistan as there is apparently video that shows many more children dying in the disputed airraid than the U.S has accounted for…calling the children militants, insurgents or terrorists is a bit more problematic than so labeling the adults. Plus the U.N. and Human Rights Watch are questioning the U.S. version…Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman's family could probably help us to understand the need for the U.S. to "doctor" its version. Children dying…collateral damage…bad television coverage the same way it was in 2001/02 for Israel.
I mention this because Phil mentions the U.S targeted assassinations that Woodward acknowledges (Haven't read his book yet) and the Israeli ones that Ahmadinejad points to.
Here is a quote from an Israeli targeted assassination "mistake" that Mafish links us to:
"If the Israelis think they shot at a terrorist today, they are wrong," said his brother, Yusef. "Shame on you."
And,a JTA article discussing Meir Dagan, Mossad Director :. "Israel is in the paradoxical situation of not having a death penalty but allowing itself to target Arab terrorists outside its borders with almost complete impunity," Gad Shimron, a 10-year Mossad veteran, told JTA. "Meir Dagan fully subscribes to this thinking, unlike some of his predecessors."
A retired general of compact build and few words, Dagan has stayed in the shadows since taking over the Mossad. But an interview he gave in 1998, while serving as counterterrorism adviser in the Prime Minister's Office, was instructive. "In my opinion, no terrorist should feel immune, anywhere," he told Channel Two television. "I think that a person's life is forfeit the moment he decides to adopt terrorist tactics"
Holocaust survivor Meir Dagan had a long career with the IDF with special concentration in counterterrorism and targeted assassinations. He took over the reins of Mossad in 2002. I remember reading that he was going to change the style of intelligence gathering – more toward electronic monitoring.
The U.S and Israel have such a close working relationship. For instance, I've read that Elliot Abrams had a direct line to Dov Weisglas(Sharon's Chief of Staff) and has a direct connection now to Weisglas's successor…seems very cozy. If I am not mistaken, these folks all get together at the AIPAC conventions and at Herziliya and maybe Aspen, joined by Biden, McCain, Obama,Clinton, Lugar, Pelosi and friends. And, have read at numerous sources that the Israelis have assisted the U.S. in understanding how to fight an uprising against an occupation what with all their experience and all. I suppose Abrams could assist the Israelis in how to circumvent official channels with his Iran-Contra experience and now with the NSA. So it is not all one-sided advice.
My interest and focus lies with the little people…the ordinary people, the Emmett Tills of the world. When the IDF pulled up in front of Shaden Abu Hijleh's house (Oct 02) and shot at her over fifteen times were they just having a little fun or as in the Till case did the perpetrators know exactly who they were after? And, in the James Miller case, did the IDF know that the crew was filming an HBO special and decide to stop this bad press which hurts the war effort which aids and abets their enemy which sort of makes them fellow travelers with……or was it just simple aggression and all very anonymous? And, in the Tom Hurndall case, one of three ISM members attacked in a six week period, did the IDF target members of a group that were using the internet, cameras and the press to expose IDF occupation tactics and to protest both IDF practices and the U.S. drive to the Iraqi war? Or, was it just sad coincidence that the IDF seemed to get it wrong pn tree different occasions in a six week period when people who stood up to the military got in their way. And, three times, no credible investigations….
Shaden Abu Hijleh. Even,… when she was sitting on her porch and they came to her not she to them…highly respected, active in women's groups, outspoken community leader, nonviolent resister to the occupation…they came to her porch and shot her in the head…. maybe they just didn't like the flowers she had laid at the boot of their equipment in the weekly protest march……but the IDF could not find their way to a credible investigation….Shaden's children all U of Iowa graduates…it seems close to home as I have known so many international students who came to Iowa and left with a real love for America. I just do not remember ever having to have a discussion about targeted assassinations. Our discussion was Nixon, Watergate, dirty tricks, Barbara Jordon and that Carolinian country lawyer who made some of us believe in the power of democracy and justice and truth.
Just not Cheney and friends as they saw their leader disgraced.
…
Neocon leaders/Iraq war dozers David Frum (recently linked on Laura Rozen's blog)and Richard Perle conflate the ISM and Rachel
with communist fellow travelers and fellow travelers to Islamic Extremists. I always wondered why Perle who still sat on the Defense Policy Board and could just wander into Feith's and Abram's offices since they are all buds….always wondered why Perle didn't just have Abrams pick up that phone and call Dov Weisglas (Sharon placed him in charge of Rachel's investigation- the one the State Dept. did not find credible or thorough) and ask him if the IDF had found a tunnel in the Nasrallah home…especially since the home was still standing when An End To Evil was published months after Rachel's death. _
Targeted killings, bad press, t.v coverage
the Neocons, no credible investigations, Steven Hadley and Dov Weisglas, peace activists in Iowa in 2003 being infiltrated and then arrested…doing embroidery on her front porch….Afghani airraids by my country…children killed…bad press…President Bush doesn't want us to see this on our t.v.;doesn't want us to see this on our t.v.(Mr.Seliger, did you mention the t.v? Please, tell me you did not mention the t.v.)
I'd still like to know if Israelis were involved at Abu Ghraib, as was first suggested.

generally speaking what exactly has the jew and his western supporters brought to the world besides murder and mayhem?
the jews in israel are open enemies to the muslim world, and the hidden jews in european/american politics are now coming out as hitler described them "JEWISH WORMS INFESTING EVERY GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT HE SQUEEZED" causing strife between races and religions due to their devilish nature as evidenced historically.
Looks as though you missed the clue Woodward gave about "new technology" as being the means by which such assassinations are carried out. To give you a further clue, it involves MMW technology and follows the discovery that all humans transmit MMW radiation in the 96ghz band. This was first discovered in lab in California after the first MMW receiver was built and it would "light up" when a human passed it. This phenomenon was published in a scientific journal available to the public before they realized the implications and possible applications. Further, it was discovered that every human being has his own, unique frequency within the MMW band, just like a fingerprint.
I'll let you take it from there.
Nobody gives a damn when humans die at the hands of other humans. The targeted are not busy looking for hiding places they are planning revenge just as they always have and sooner or later they will get it and you will deserve it. Since when does a zionist ever tell the truth about anything? Thier lying and killing is about to catch up with them once again and this time it will be the bloodiest episode in human history for all.
I guess all is normal on planet Earth.
