I like Palen. She seems to be genuine and comfortable in her skin. If I watched TV and she were running for president I would be tempted to vote for her.

However as a former student at an well known elite college, I can definitely attest that most elites can barely disguise their contempt for the unwashed masses who go to places like UI, Moscow.

Palin is simply not part of the elite social class–she's the hick who wandered into the Harvard Club and is making everyone very uncomfortable while they try to find a nice way to tell her to get lost.

Phil is just being silly and bigoted in regards to Palin. She's just a veep candidate, and I'm far more suspect of McCain and Obama, anyway.

Just for arguments sake, would Palin do more damage to the elites than the elites have done to Middle America if she somehow became president? What would be the consequences for the nation if she managed to become president and damaged the elites?

I don't know much about Palin, but there is no genius or superior person of the four presidential and veep candidates from the major parties. And anyone who is falling for Obama's racial healer act has no room to question anyone's sophistication or ability to think deeply.

I think that Phil just makes the point that the nation needs to finally be allowed to divide peacefully. I don't know what group Phil thinks he's representing, but there is no reason that a large percentage of the population should be on the receiving end of his views. Maybe people like Phil are the reason that my region of the nation is awash in people fleeing the sophistication of the coasts?
