My Wife Says McCain and Cindy Won’t Divorce, Maybe Couric and Greenfield Should

I visited my wife au bain this morning and she had a couple of psychological insights. McCain and his wife have no real relationship.

He did not touch her on stage, they seemed to avoid one another, didn't look at one another. It was a stark contrast to Todd and Sarah Palin. I recalled that McCain made a (straighttalkin') statement about how hard a campaign is on the family, and this was no exception. Will they get divorced? I asked. No, my wife said, this has always been the relationship: they have nothing to do with one another.

My wife also said that the relationship between Jeff Greenfield and Katie Couric is excruciating. Couric is competitive with the #2, Greenfield, and Greenfield is much smarter than she is, and she puts him down. My wife cited a few instances of tension: they differed over the pronunciation of Nevada and Greenfield said, that doesn't matter any more and Couric said, It always matters. Or some other silly pronouncement. But when Couric mispronounced Jon Voigt's name, as Vote, Greenfield didn't correct her. She also made an insecure flightly comment about, I read People Magazine too much. Then Greenfield said the great challenge was whether Obama could bring his populist change army to Washington and Couric said, That's obvious, and Greenfield said icily that he regards that as his goal, to state the obvious.

I mentioned that tensions on MSNBC had led to a major change earlier this year, maybe this will result in personnel changes. My wife said that CBS bosses are too arrogant to admit they are wrong about Couric.
