Lion Cubs of 1970

Bakha1 Bakha2 Here are two photographs Jeff Blankfort took in the Bakaa refugee camp in Jordan in August 1970. They show young Palestinian kids, Ashbal, or Lion Cubs, as they were called, getting ready to fight to retake the land taken from their parents.

Amazing to think, these pictures were taken 38 years ago, and now the cubs are middle-aged, and still there is no resolution....

And think how much strife is caused, worldwide, by the imagined places exiles have in their hearts...

You can take heart from the fact that some of them have thrown the requisite number of Jewish toddlers off the roofs of kindergartens, so they feel like they've done something!

I also like the Egyptian in the midst there . . .or Nubian even. Kind of makes the Joan Peters thesis (about "Palestinians" being mostly economic migrant workers from other parts of the region with no historic ties to the land) sound not so crazy.

  5. I think the commenter who wrote this (I hope he isn't really a 'journalist', but since I doubt a real one would call himself that I am nto too concerned) -

"You can take heart from the fact that some of them have thrown the requisite number of Jewish toddlers off the roofs of kindergartens, so they feel like they've done something!"

is a rather good example of the pathological racial and religious hatred Jews are encouraged to exhibit towards Arabs. It is at least as filthy, intended to provoke hatred and to justify wanton murder of the Arabs thus characterised, as any "Jewish ritual murder claim" I can recall.

  6. Journalist says:

Yeah, except the murder of those toddlers happened, Rowan. Might not have made news where you live . . .

  7. well, then, "journalist", you better cite some evidence. As it stands, your claim is about as plausible as the Damascus Blood Libel.

If "journalist" is a real journalist (not in the sense of Fox News), then I am Albert Einstein!

Come on, Journo. Give us a citation.

Maalot was a nice example where your hero's knocked off 34 Jewish kids. Or maybe Koby Mandell, went hiking and had to be identified through dental records. Quiryat Shimona. The Lebanese hero Samir Kuntar, cracked a little girls skull open. You know Rowan, its too bad the Leftwaffe didn't nail you and your whole sorry family during the blitz.

  11. I love the 'philanthropic' message, SoG, but you haven't got any Arabs throwing Jewish toddlers off the roofs of kindergartens, because there aren't any. You and your 'soft cop' buddy Euro are just lying scum. QED.

  12. sword of gideon says:

Bullshit Rowan. Happened all the time. And even a low life piece of shit English scumbag like yourself should admit it. But then again. I think your still waiting for Stalin to come back, am I right asshole.

  13. This is great – your irate comments will be thrown back at you for months.

Just one example could get you out of the hole you're in, but of course you haven't got one, as I said.

  14. sword of gideon says:

    Maalot, you English scumbag.

  15. LD says:

SoG will say anything to justify the racism and disgusting behavior of the typical Zionist.

Tell us, where's this story about Arabs throwing Jews off of the roof of schools?

    Show us proof.

  16. Richard Witty says:

    Phil,
I hope that one of your themes of presenting the "lion cubs", in addition to describing their sentiment as understandable, is that of the brainwashing impact of militancy and the pressure to conform (rather than accept the other).

It is a theme of dissent against Israeli abuses, of the "identity" issues that make Jews live less than the jewel of the weight of their teachings.

It should be a theme of any presumptious discussion of "identity" distortions (understandable) on the part of Palestinians, supporters, militants of any high-momentum, high-conformity stripe.

  17. anon says:

Yeah, a bunch of kids should stick together when confronted by a giant massively armed bully time after time, and weighed down with the jewels of his selfish teachings.

  18. anon says:

Hey Witty, what we want to know is, did you bother to sign the letter
being sent to Israel on December 18th?

    I bet you did not.
I will protect any of those universally moral Israeli kids against
you kid, and you. IT's the difference between tribal morality and
true morality, that is, universal morality.
