As reported by the New York Times today Israel is not allowing building materials to enter Gaza to begin the reconstruction. From the article:
Peter Lerner, the spokesman for the Defense Ministry’s coordination
office for Gaza, said that while Israel was facilitating all
humanitarian work, including allowing in cable to fix the electrical
grid, it would not consider reopening the crossings fully for
commercial use, and any reconstruction projects would need to be
approved individually.
Approving projects individually means dealing with 4,000 destroyed homes and 17,000 damaged homes one by one. And of course this is being determined by the country who destroyed the houses in the first place. Sounds like occupation to me. This is just a part of the general blockade of Gaza that prevents the free flow of people, medicine, food, electricity, fuel or, of course, building materials.
Please think of this the next time you hear someone say Israel withdrew from Gaza in the interest of peace and all they received back were rockets. (Adam Horowitz)

Hello people, why can't someone compel Israel to act like one expects normal countries to act? This is a state that calls itself not just A Jewish state, but The Jewish state. Actions like this will have lasting impression on people from around the world about Israel, Zionism Jews and Judaism. Mohammad, as long as you use this line of argument – that they will just bring about the very thing they claim to fear, i.e. great waves of vicious global anti-Jewish hatred – then you demonstrate that you fail to understand their intentions. They WANT that. I have many examples of them deliberately looking for, finding, amplifying, and broadcasting to the entire global public, every single detail, such as the idiotic (but perfect for them) "Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas" chant, which I feel quite sure no-one but a provocateur would every try to perform. This is what they WANT, because it gives them a rationale for 'defensive actions', up to and including nuking the region. After all, you can't reason with Nazis, can you?
Remember when the Soviets put West Berlin under blockade? For nine months the Allies ran an airlift into Berlin, refusing to let the Soviets bully it into submission.
Where are those heroic allies, sixty years on? Where are the NATO flights into Gaza airport? The U.S. destroyers, breaking the Israeli naval blockade?

The Israelis won't let construction material in without keeping track of what it is for because the top priorities of the Palestinians are not rebuilding houses and buildings, but building more rockets to fire at Israeli civilians and more smuggling tunnels to smuggle in rockets to fire at Israeli civilians.

Israel targets terrorists, not kids. Unfortunately, the terrorists make sure that Israel can't kill them and destroy their rocket caches without killing their human shields as well.
The kids don't deserve it, nor do most people used as human shields (well, there's always a chance that some bank robber happens to pick a serial killer as a human shield, but I digress).
The problem is that when someone with a human shield is trying to kill you and your family, you have a choice of letting them kill you, or shooting back, knowing that the human shield may die along with, or even instead of your actual target.
If someone is trying to kill kids, then they can kill a lot of them relatively fast. In this case, thousands of soldiers fought for 22 days and only a few hundred kids got killed in the crossfire. What's that, about one kid for every ten soldiers?

Do you honestly think that ten soldiers, with m16s, going for maximum death count in a densely populated city would only manage to kill one kid in three weeks?

Mostly they don't because whichever answer they give makes them look like idiots. If they say "yes, ten soldiers could kill at most one kid in three weeks in a densely populated city" they look like idiots because that answer is clearly ridiculous. If they say "no, ten soldiers could kill way more than one kid in three weeks if they were trying" then they look like idiots for saying that Israel was trying to kill kids. That is because only people who haven't bothered to think about it or do the math think that Israel was trying to maximize casualties.
So, they make up some bullshit reason why they don't want to answer.

Anyway, as for why the Palestinians should want Israel's trust. That is so simple that even you should have been able to figure it out. When the country that controls your access to building supplies doesn't trust you with building supplies, you don't get building supplies.
Let's take it a step further. Why shouldn't the Palestinians transport weapons in ambulances (which they have done many times in the past)? Because when the people who have the power to stop your ambulances from getting through don't trust that the ambulances aren't a ruse to smuggle weapons, they aren't likely to let your ambulances through.
Why shouldn't Palestinian women suicide bombers pretend to be pregnant and in labor to smuggle bombs? Because when the people who are between your actual pregnant women and the hospital don't trust that an apparently pregnant woman isn't a suicide bomber, they might not let her through.
Geeze, Danny, don't you have parents or friends? Didn't you notice that when you want something that requires a person to trust you, you are more likely to get it if you haven't burned them in the past? If you don't return money, people stop lending it to you when you need it, etc.
