Jeremy Paxman of BBC interviews Regev: "You knew what you were doing when you hit it [the school], didn't you?.. You knew where all the UN facilities were.. Now I put it to you-- ... Regardless of how many civilians may be killed!... I'm not asking you a question about war crimes, Mr. Regev, I'm asking you..." Don't judge BBC by this example however. For days, NPR and rest of US media repeated the Israeli mantra that "Hamas was hiding in the UN schools". Once that lie was exposed and the IDF admitted there were no Hamas fighters there, the US media stopped "reporting" about the 40 massacred at the school. Was that silence because they could no longer append the disclaimer the IDF falsehood that fighters hid behind the children? No "false equivalency", no story.

White phosphorus is a solid, waxy man-made chemical which ignites spontaneously at about 30C and produces an intense heat, bright light and thick pillars of smoke.

What are its effects?

Is Israel Using Experimental Weapons in Gaza?

Concerns about Israel’s use of non-conventional and experimental weapons in the Gaza Strip are growing, with evasive comments from spokesmen and reluctance to allow independent journalists inside the tiny enclave only fuelling speculation.
The most prominent controversy is over the use of shells containing white phosphorus, which causes horrific burns when it comes into contact with skin. Under international law, phosphorus is allowed as a smokescreen to protect soldiers but treated as a chemical weapon when used against civilians.
The Israeli army maintains that it is using only weapons authorised in international law, though human rights groups have severely criticised Israel for firing phosphorus shells over densely populated areas of Gaza.
But there might be other unconventional weapons Israel is using out of sight of the watching world.
