More independent Jews speak out against slaughter (1 o’clock press conference, Union Square)

Americans for Peace Now is for a cease-fire, good for them, but it is making the wrong call in its Gaza statements. It turns over part of its site to Yossi Alpher, an Israeli security expert, who rationalizes everything Israel is doing and says that the number of civilian casualties is "remarkably low" (quote not in that link, but in the latest letter APN is sending out from Alpher, today). Even if the world doesn't understand, Alpher says, we can. I don't understand why APN is giving such prominence to the views of an Israeli. And doing so every week.

Alpher also has the gall to link Hamas and Hezbollah as non-state actors. And Israel has prevented Palestinians from having a state forever. Though yes, APN has done good work on that score. (Though it has refused to disengage from AIPAC–thus is the Jewish family compromised by rightwingers.)

Jews must see Israel as other people see Israel. Even the Yahoo news budget emphasizes the fact that 7 children have been killed by the latest offensive and that Gazans are "impoverished." Wake up.

APN should try to remember the first word in its name. Do Americans have anything to teach Israel now? Yes. At 1 o'clock there is a press conference of Jews against the Gaza slaughter, southwest corner of Union Square, by the subway entrance.

"As Jews, we join millions around the world in condemning Israel's ongoing murder and maiming of hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza. Israel does not speak for us!

"The dead in Gaza represent a greater portion of Gaza's population than the percentage of New
Yorkers who died on 9/11."
