Time Magazine: ‘Why Israel Can’t Win’

by Philip Weiss on January 8, 2009 · 1 comment

This just in from a friend:
Richard Stengel was on Morning Joe talking about the next issue of Time Magazine – cover story "Why Israel Can't Win."  Cover not yet up on website.  Main point was that Gaza attack is alienating the "moderate" arabs who are more inclined to reach a deal with Israel and work together with respect to common threats and maintaining a regional balance of power, i.e. Sunni states/Israel keeping Shia/Persian Iran in check.
Weiss: wonder if my co-Kabbalist Karon is involved in these activities…

Here's link. Note that inside hed of story is "Can Israel Survive Its Assault on Gaza?" Kudos to Stengel, who made his journalistic bones in South Africa during apartheid

Apparently Time cover sez: "Why Israel Can't Win. The siege of Gaza may punish Hamas, but it won't make Israel safe. Why it is in peril like never before."

Good for TIME. What disgusts me even more than the brutality and cruelty of the Gaza campaign is the sheer stupidity of it. The Israelis are screwing themselves in the eyes of the world and jeopardizing the continued existence of their precious Jewish state, and they don't even seem to realize it. That's hubris for you.
