"We are not war hungry"! No, just land and resource hungry. Obviously we'd prefer it if the natives would just leave them to us voluntarily.

EU BACKS GROUND OPERATION (Reuters)
European Union president, the Czech Republic, said on Saturday an Israeli ground incursion in Gaza was "defensive, not offensive" action.

Up yours, Phil.

Maybe the former soi-disant 'newspaper of record' [prior to its Chap. 7 liquidation] is performing a service here. That is, of documenting war crimes during its prolonged senescence.

Göring was condemned to hang for war crimes, but committed suicide the night before his execution. Can we expect anything less from the eminent Israeli, Barak?

His sister in crime, Miss Tzipi, might recall that some female war criminals were executed too.

Has this been been released in its entirety by any other news organization? I think we should be grateful that the NYT is so willing to indulge Mr. Barak, and neglect to leave at least one layer of 'mouthpiece' between the Israeli government and what everybody recognizes is a preeminent and respectable American Jewish establishment institution. Is he hoping to shore up support amongst mainstream moderate Jews who are feeling a bit queasy with this war, and using the imprimatur of his office to elicit a 'call to the colors'? Let's not make post-war connect-the-dots too easy. Methinks Ms. Starr has them a little rattled ...

Any thoughts from folks closer to American Jewish opinion than me?

The New York Times publishes news.

In its editorial and op-ed pages have been articles that are critical of the operation and supportive.

A VARIETY.

Unlike here.

AFP report from 2 hours ago:

Revealing a sharp difference in tone from the official line in Washington, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said the decision to send ground forces into Gaza after a week of air strikes was a "dangerous military escalation," while Britain called for an immediate ceasefire.
The European Union's new Czech presidency said Israel did not have the right to take military actions "which largely affect civilians," though its launching of land operations in the Gaza Strip was no surprise.
UN chief Ban Ki-moon also urged an immediate end to Israel's ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Ban "called for an immediate end to the ground operation, and asked that Israel do all possible to ensure the protection of civilians and that humanitarian assistance is able to reach those in need," his office said in a statement.
