Archbishop Desmond Tutu endorses Hampshire divestment action

From the Hampshire SJP blog:

This is a monumental and historic step in the struggle for Palestinian equality, self-determination and peace in the Holy Land by non violent means. I see what these students have accomplished as a replica of the support of their College of our struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Hampshire College's decision to divest should be a guiding example to all institutions of higher learning.

To judge by this new article in Ha'aretz, link to haaretz.com
it looks like Israel is really worried by campaigns for boycott and divestiture.

Next month will be critical for the fight against academic boycotts of Israel in the U.K., according to the founder of Academic Friends of Israel, Ronnie Fraser. March is the month boycott proposals will be submitted to the academic organizations, making time of the essence, says Fraser – whose organization played a part in the 2007 shelving of a planned academic boycott of Israel by the University and College Union.

"The critical phase is the deliberation phase over the various proposals, because after an anti-Israel proposal reaches the plenum for voting it has an excellent chance of passing," Fraser said. He noted that voting takes place in May. Noting that Israel's invasion of Gaza in December greatly motivated boycott-advocates, Fraser – who lives in the U.K. – nonetheless adds that he believes they will ultimately fail. Indeed, in late 2007 the union undid an earlier pro-boycott vote by announcing that after seeking legal advice, it had come to the conclusion that a boycott would be unlawful.

Would that it were a world in which Archbishop Tutu could be pope. A man that actually shows that god is great.

Insteadour leading spiritual light today is what amounts to an online political mega-church, with an attractive hologram of goodness and equality as its frontman, cooing to all classes and political stripes each in their different pitch, effusing reasonableness and flawless good sense, but 100% impotent to resist the oncoming collapse of American society under ruinous military and financial adventurism.

What remains of Barack Obama's soul must find it difficult to go on preaching. But since he's already put his hand on the good book and all of that, there's no going back now:

Israel has to get up to speed and do that loyalty oath they desire–the USA already has one, de facto: The USA litmus test is loyalty to Israel.

That only applies to elected officials. The rest of us still have the option of answering to a higher power….and we can throw a monkey wrench into the system.

Ronnie Fraser uses the (London) College's resources where he "works" and his time there to access bogus Islamist websites and print out reams of pages from it for goodness knows what.
