Israeli rightwing turn will continue fracture of Israel lobby here

MJ Rosenberg is saying in the LA Times and at Israel Policy Forum that the Israel lobby here doesn't want a rightwing Israel. They want to be able to market Israel in the U.S. It's hard to market a government with a racist in it when you live in Obama's America. I think this is hugely empowering to J Street actually. Notice: no statement. J Street laying low. Feathering nest with alienated American Jews.

M.J. Rosenberg in LA Times article: "Moreover, it is hard to imagine that a majority of Israelis would tolerate such an unabashedly racist law."

Israel already has many unabashedly racist laws. Mr. Rosenberg observes that "Israel has been moving right for years." Would a loyalty oath law truly be that much of a departure from the status quo that a politically significant portion of the Israeli public would object?

  2. chris berel says:

Israel actually has very few unabashedly racist laws. The main being the right of return, the reason why so many member states voted for allowing the recreation of Israel.

It was felt that since so many refused the Jews refuge in their time of need, it was only fitting that their national homeland be restored to them.

Of course, after all, the land was a land without people, so why not?
