Churchill would end the ‘cowed silence’ around Gaza slaughter

Tony Kushner and Alisa Solomon begin their piece on "Seven Jewish Children" in the Nation the way all such pieces should begin, reciting the terrible numbers from the Gaza slaughter. Then:

There are passages, particularly in an ugly monologue near the
play's conclusion, that are terribly painful to experience, especially
for Jews.

It's difficult to imagine that the author didn't intend to court
outrage, whether or not she anticipated its ferocity. This imputes
nothing to Churchill of the mischievous or sensationalistic. Her play's
political ambitions are at least as important as its aesthetic
ambitions. Moreover, it would be disingenuous and, in a sense, a
betrayal of Seven Jewish Children to insist upon a calm, quiet
reading or hearing free from the voluble passions it has enflamed. The
fury that rises up around this conflict, and the cowed silence that is
that fury's inevitable concomitant, are simultaneously the object and
subject of the play. It's an incitement to speech and an examination of
silence; in its content and through its inevitably controversial
reception, it describes what can and cannot be said.

I wonder has anyone given thought to any of the same ability or lack of due to dumbing down of americans in general to speak out of atrosities in which their taxes are being put to use and what rate of return and benifits are gained from the 60 + years of genocide or that a single group with over 437,000. members (aipac) is only one of thousands of the groups in which israel is robbing the usa with. Is a lie of some middle eastern threat (when we put all the puppets there)and control without any mistake about it all goings on which have a path from our top goverment officials down to the 60+ years of genocide and ethnic cleansing as well as the uss liberty or us citizens being targeted with only an apology. not to mention there is no gain possible for anyone one side is killed and the other is labled pretty hard to say sorry or don't defend yourselves let us kill you and your families..did the fox move into the hen house and then have the audasity to say," There are many attempts at silencing the voices of reason but remember..

Did we not go after adolf hitler and his allies complicit in the holocaust of 6 million for an under ten year traggedy.

Then why help silence the 18 million that have been forcibly removed , slaughtered , and made to look as if their only defenses are the terrorist act on the occupier and aggressors.

Should they lay down and just be killed off ?

Too many years the usa has blindly supported the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the peaceful farming communities that make up Palestine.

Please do not be one of the complicit in silencing any voices the truth and support needs to be for the Palestinians…it is not their fault for the hijacking of the truth via the israel and aipac connections in the usa and elsewhere. Let the world know it is they who are the aggressors and people complicit with the genocide….yet with 60+ years of support from usa taxes none the less..make it more and more imparative the truth be out for the world to see.

    Phil:
"There are passages, particularly in an ugly monologue near the play's conclusion, that are terribly painful to experience, especially for Jews."

The protests do not arise from the earliest passages–the victim, hence the sympathy is clear.

    But:

"It's an incitement to speech and an examination of silence; in its content and through its inevitably controversial reception, it describes what can and cannot be said."

Precisely because nearing the end of the conclusion the most obvious victim requires addressing complicity, the vaguely evoked historical arch from the beginning to the end of the
script. The suggestion is that there is no direct link to justify an eye for an eye, or even an eye for an eyelash. The contemporary mother in question knows this, and is left with "better thee, than me." (Better your child than mine.)

The concept of being chosen is hard to separate in reality from the concept of choosing, no?

Would you really give your life for your brother? Your child, to save his?
