My anonymous friend writes:
I see Mr Aargh in your comments on my earlier post– in which I said, Lieberman suggested nuking Gaza– is skeptical:
"And mister Mondowoshkeiss is a liar. He whose name he dareth not to speak only suggested nuking the Asuan, if ever Egypt were to attack Israel. That way he showed how much the man of peace he is really, making it that much harder for Egypt to start a war when they know what's at stake."
Maybe make "nuking" in your post a link to this:
Jerusalem Post, Jan 13, 2009:
Lieberman: Do to Hamas what the US did to Japan…
Operation Cast Lead must continue until Hamas "loses the will to fight," Israel Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Lieberman said on Tuesday.
Operation Cast Lead must continue until Hamas "loses the will to fight," Israel Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Lieberman said on Tuesday.
"We must continue to fight Hamas just like the United States did with
the Japanese in World War II," Lieberman added. "Then, too, the occupation of the country was unnecessary."

I'm a little obtuse. Please explain to me how Mr. Aargh is wrong? I don't see it.
Shizari,
You're more than "a little" obtuse. The kool-aid coursing through your veins has begun to spout out of your oral orifice onto your keyboard each time you type.
For it is painfully clear that Israel is the only belligerent power in the region. "if Egypt were to attack Israel" – Pulllleaze, give me a break. How about this: if Indonesia were to attack Israel. The chances are about equal.
PM
Pretty darn obtuse if you don't get it. From the JP article.
Aargghhh called Phil a liar for saying exactly the same thing that the JP did. Get it now?

Fine to attack Leiberman but let's remember that he's able to say such things precisely because the US set the precedent of gratuitous mass murder of civilians with atomic weapons at Hiroshima and Nagasaki—one of the most appalling crimes in history, which the US continues to justify, indeed, to glorify. A forthright exhibit on Hiroshima at the Smithsonian was shut down by the government. You can't even show the public the enola gay. Instead, we are treated to a preposterous litany of falsehoods…ended the war, saved lives, etc
It's truly, really sickening to have to read some of the Jewish media 'in this country' reacting to the 'activities of the IDF and the use of white phosphorus on civilians as simply: "…Israel defending itself…" rather than admitting the blatant exercise to try and ethnically cleanse a people… The pathetic hypocrisy of these individuals having the audacity to say they champion human rights, wailing about Darfur, all the while turning a blind eye to their own human rights crimes is truly pathetic.
The Jewish Press [Editorial Board]: "…But it is now clear that the terrorist arsenal has now morphed into a more comprehensive public relations mode, enjoying the collaborative efforts of witting and unwitting fellow travelers. A full-fledged effort is being mounted to weaken the ability of Israel to respond to Hamas and other terrorist groups by citing the impact on Palestinian civilians those operations inevitably have…
…We can expect more of this as Hamas and its allies continue their efforts to discourage Israel from defending itself and its interests…

I don't think it has a head and I think commentary is all wrong because it doesn't just represent Israel but the militancy of both Israel and the US.
Sorry, I still don't see where Lieberman is calling ("hinting" — whatever) for a nuclear strike against the Palestinians.
@Paul Malfara, tree, fultronix:
Let's be honest, shall we? We're all drinking the Kool-Aid here. Yours is just a different flavor.
Shirazi, this seems like a "hint" to me.
"Lieberman: Do to Hamas what the US did to Japan… "
I think those who worried back in 1945 about the projected loss of GI lives if they were to invade mainland Japan have a point–they were looking at the death toll in places like Iwo Jima. I also think those who were looking at Dresden at the time, have a point. Further those who realized Stalin had jumped on board against Japan had a point–while the Western allies had chosen to fight Hitler, rather than Stalin, that did not mean they were not wary of Stalin, and of course, they were proven right as to both, and the cold war ensued. The rational for nuking Japan had many aspects, no? More, the USA had no choice but to fight Germany because Hitler declared war on the USA–Hitler had no choice either since he was formally allied with Japan. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor as they felt they had no choice due to Roosevelt's cutting off their oil supplies. I guess the question is, does the Obama administration and the Israeli regime even realize all the factors at play now? Perhaps it's now or never and they should get on board with the 2002 Arab plan to end the I-P conflict? It sure looks like Obama and Israel are
closing their eyes to reality, and we will pay the price, all Americans, among others.
No, Shirazi.
Egypt will not attack Israel.
Jordan will not attack Israel.
They are CLIENT STATES.
Get your head out of your ass. I know you're desperately trying to find middle ground in the conflict – only when cornered and to mitigate the harsh reality that YOUR narrative of this conflict is total bollocks.
I think the widely accepted explanation that the US nuked japan to intimidate Russia is correct, intuitively obvious, and needs no revision or qualification.

Egypt and Jordan damn well better not attack Israel. We dish out fat loads of free cash to their autocrats, and I want my taxpayer dollar's worth of mercenary compliance. (morning snark)
Rowan, do you think a factor in Truman's rush to recognize the self-declared state of Israel was his
angst to beat the USSR to the punch, part of the incipient Cold War evolving?
Absolutely, yes. I would want to synchronise this with the expulsion of Trotsky from Russia, and the defection of the entire Trotskyite movement throughout the world from pro-communism to anti-communism, under the disguise of mere 'anti-Stalinism', too. It was a prodigiously elaborate and well-choreographed dance of changing world bloc alignments, in which Israel was arguably the principal pivot.
You have a lot grabbed there. I agree.
