Thought experiment 2 (Darfur)

From Foreign Policy:

"As Secretary Clinton remarked last week, President Bashir and the government in Khartoum will be held responsible for each death that occurs in those camps caused by their expulsion of the aid workers," Wood said.

That was about Darfur.
Imagine (writes a friend) for an instant if we performed a transliteration:

"As Secretary Clinton remarked last week, Prime Minister Olmert and the government in Jerusalem will be held responsible for each death that occurs in Gaza caused by the denial of food," Wood said.

  1. Harry Fenton says:

I think that's because, in Darfur, almost a million people were killed by President Bashir, people who weren't sending missiles at Khartoum.

And so far, the death toll in Gaza due to starvation is in the low zeroes and Egypt can flood the border with food if it so chooses. But, of course, the borders are being flooded with replacement missiles and munitions for further attacks against Israel.

Your thought experiments are taking part in the Gaza part of your brain.

You are complicit and worse than wilfully ignorant, Harry Fenton.

  3. Harry Fenton says:

Right back at you, Beatrice! I guess you believe that the unprovoked murder of a million people by Muslims in Darfur is the exact equivalent of the death of 1200 people in an Israeli response to continuous missile attacks (with about 75% of the people killed being part of the militia of Hama).

  4. Eva Smagacz says:

Hasbara outrage is amusing if we turn their talking point no. 4 "everybody sucks" and do some comparisons of our own to expose the hypocrisy.

  5. David F. says:

I get so weary of this hypocricy and pseudo-moral babble.

We killed a million Iraqis in order to "liberate" them. Let's not even get into deaths caused by the sanctions. Will Bush, Blair, and the lot, along with the people who freely elected and enabled them, be held responsible for "each death?" I don't recall Clinton trying to stop the war, and she was smart enough to know it was being promoted by lies and fake intelligence.

I spit at her concerns for Darfur.

  6. MRW. says:

I agree with David F. 100%. And the fact that the Israelis are in Darfur thick as thieves makes me question every report I hear. If I hear one more Jewish aid group ring its hands over the horror of Darfur, I'm going to throw up. The Israelis want Sudanese water and oil. Take a look at the map and read 'for real' foreign policy papers on this. There's another agenda going on there. Israel would be ecstatic to have US forces helping them destabilize the area, but they can't rouse the US population.

Another good source is someone who works for Medecins Sans Frontieres in the region, if you know one. Their workers are forbidden to talk about what they see because it risks the org politically. But if you're a good friend of one, you can find out the truth. Most of the shit we hear over here is complete rubbish, and censored.

For anyone who's interested in some background on the conflict in Darfur, I highly recommend this interview with Professor Mahmood Mamdani of Columbia University.

Fenton, as usual, knows only the propaganda he's taught to spout.
