Thank you! We are more than halfway to sending Mondoweiss to AIPAC and Gaza, but we still need your help.

In the first week of the Mondoweiss fundraising drive we raised close to $6,000 – thank you! We are more than halfway to our goal of $8,000. If you haven't given yet, please consider it now.

In May, Mondoweiss hopes to cover two stories that are central to the mission of this site: the AIPAC policy conference in Washington DC and the aftermath of the war in Gaza. But we will only be able to do so with your help. We are seeking $8,000 to pay our expenses for these two trips – please give what you can.

The two of us will travel to DC to cover what AIPAC is billing as the "three of the most important days affecting Israel's future."
We plan on bringing you the inside scoop on one of the most important
Washington events of the year. Also, we have just been invited to join
a delegation to visit the war ravaged Gaza strip; and we'd like to get one person on that trip. As the story of
Gaza's destruction and recovery fades from the front page, it is as
important as ever that independent, honest and unencumbered reporting
tell the real story. Please help make this important reporting possible.

Over the past three years Mondoweiss has come to distinguish itself
as a site willing to tell the stories the mainstream press is afraid to
touch – whether it's uncovering Israeli settler fundraising networks, driving the discussion of the Israel lobby, or covering the shifting debate over US foreign policy. We've been doing it on a shoestring. We have never done a direct fundraising appeal before. Please help Mondoweiss continue to grow. You can donate using the paypal donate button on the site or by sending us a check (write mondoweiss@gmail.com for details).

Thank you in advance for what you are able to give, and for all the encouragement (and leads) that you already give us. This site is not possible without you!

  1. MRW. says:

Set up a separate DONATE FOR AIPAC AND GAZA button. It's psychological, Phil. Then you can post the results every two days or so underneath it. Again, psychological.

  2. Rowan says:

I can't help; if we are to believe Chris Berel, I am living in appalling, Dickensian squalor, "on the dole." Only my laptops show any signs of affluence.

  3. Joe Schick says:

AIPAC is a waste of time. I prefer the ZOA.

  4. MRW. says:

I'm going to pony up. Just not today.

  5. Todd says:

Only if you take Joachim along.

  6. Gert says:

MRW is right, every penny counts. Get a separate button. Good luck!

  7. Anthony says:

We also need to mobalize and send a massive number of protestors at the vanue. WE NEED TO GET AIPAC TO CHANGE ITS WAYS!!!!

  8. anon says:

Phil and Adam. It's important to have you guys there. But why not also organize a demonstration outside the doors? This year outside the entrance should be the first large anti israel lobby demonstration in the history of the lobby. Im not saying u2 should do it, but lets pull some punches. lets put the word out…

  9. Julian says:

    Jim Haygood:
"Please take Joachim–what an inspired idea! He's independently wealthy, what with his invention of the Internet and all. Hell, he'd probably pay you to take his whore of a wife Karin. . ."

Karin? Oh, you mean Maria Hussein.

  10. Mooser says:

"Hell, he'd probably pay you to take his whore of a wife Karin. . ."
    Jim Haygood

As always, the good manners of American Zionist supporters are on display.

  11. Shirazi says:

So basically, what you're asking for is some stimulus money?

If it's that important to you to go, pay your own damn fare. It's not like you're doing anyone else a favor, or that your going at some else's behest and have no independent interest of your own.

I'm wondering if, thus far, anyone has chipped in? Judging from the comments, I'd say no. A nice, supporting bunch you have here.

  12. Suzanne says:

how about asking your buddy, Chas Freeman, to get the Saudis to subsidize you?

That would make a rather juicy news story.

I prefer journalists who attempt to keep their bias out of it as much as possible…but hey…that's like asking for the moon around here in mondovice. :-)

  13. pulaski says:

    Just sent some for now.

  14. Todd says:

Seriously, Joachim would make a good contrast to Phil.

  15. Craig says:

Sorry to distract the discussion away from all the fun hijinks and insult-trading games, but anyway, Phil, I've just sent in my donation. I hope you can manage to fund these trips.

  16. LD says:

Shut the fuck up sockpuppet (Shirazi).

Sending my donation in now Phil.

  17. Ed says:

The Israel lobby and its Zionist minions are like a school of piranhas. It gathers, feeds, and moves on to the next target on some other media outlet, political office or area of influence.

I can see why it is always so effective in the short term: it doesn't subscribe to reason or logic, it just IS. But in the long term, I can also see why the Jews have been thrown out of pretty much every country in which they have dwelled over long periods of time and vast geographic, cultural and racial areas: they allow mindless schools of Judeofascist piranhas to define them, or don't distinguish themselves from the school of piranhas who operate under the Jewish flag until its too late.

From a naturalist perspective, which is no doubt how many progressives view it, the piranhas are a remarkable phenomenon — until the progressives are the ones being eaten.

  18. Shirazi says:

    LD…

You've become my favorite. Please don't ever change.

  19. Mooser says:

"I can also see why the Jews have been thrown out of pretty much every country in which they have dwelled over long periods of time and vast geographic, cultural and racial areas…"

Ed, you know I loves me some Judaism, but when you can only open up restaurants which can't serve shellfish, pork, or cream sauce on meat, your opportunities for assimilation will be somewhat limited. It's a burden we must bear, but still, we never get a break.

  20. Chris Berel says:

I'll help send you to hell Phil, but that's about it.

Ever wonder why everyone real is shutting doors in your face?

  21. Mooser says:

Oy Gevalt Little Chrissy's pissy! Chris, just tell yourself Phil is making Aliyah!

  22. LD says:

Shirazi, you'd be my favorite too if you weren't some variation on Suzanne/Thom/Berel/Euro/etc.

    Keep being you.

  23. LD says:

Berel forgot to watch Schindler's List today so he's a bit cranky.

  24. LanceThruster says:

    I'm pledging a donation.

I hope Phil and Adam's detractors donate as well as they always seem so convinced that if a person critically and fairly examines the situation first hand, they will come away with the view that Israel is acting in the only manner available to them, considerigng the circumstances.

On a darker note, they should also donate since they are convinced that Palestinians have such an irrational and deep-rooted hatred for all Jews that Phil & Adam will be dismembered on camera and have their bodies dragged through the streets the moment they set foot in Gaza. This would be their most cherished wet-dream fantasy come true over the fate of 'useful idiots' bent only on making Zionists cry.

    Pony up, boys and girls.

  25. B says:

    You are no Shirazi, Shirazi.

I'm originally from Shiraz, Iran and you do not respresent me.

  26. Eva Smagacz says:

The disparaging comment about Joachim's wife is not by Jim Haygood. Jim has been impersonated repeatedly on this site.

  27. Chris Berel says:

I'll send a pony to assist Phil's journey to hell, but that's about it.

  28. kylebisme says:

I'll chip in a bit. Set up 501(c)(3) status and I'll give more.

  29. Mooser says:

I'll send a pony to assist Phil's journey to hell, but that's about it.
    Posted by: Chris Berel |

Cause thanks to Zionism, you found so many!

Eva, thanks for telling me about that. So we've reached that particular milestone, handle impersonation.

  30. Mooser says:

B, "Shirazi" started out as "Sharazi Sophist". She purported to be an Iranian who was for the de-Islamisation of Iran so it could go back to its roots or something. I think that was the "Sophist" part.
Who the hell knows with these people. One snort and they'll say any damn thing, and not remember it five minutes later, and say the opposite.
What weird "permissions" supporting Zionism gives American Jews. And that weird vicarious omnipotence and sociopathic judgementality they grant themselves.

But to take this abuse from people who aren't even Isralis, well, that past the frozen limit for this guy. It might be interesting in learning what goes into making Israelis think the way they do. In learning why American ZIonist supporters think the way they do, there is only a whole lotta "Ewwwwww"! A lotta shame, as they prove there is no facet of vicarious facism utilised by Gentiles which can exclude Jews any more. Now that's assimilation!

  31. Suzanne says:

Foamy Mousse, like Phil, sees himself as so much better than other Jews. Exceptionalism for him, means HE is the exception to the Jews around him. In his mind's eye he is superior, smarter, more enlightened.

He is the uber-Jew (well, really the goober Jew to anyone who looks closely enough). :-)

If he could really hear how smarmy and self righteous he sounded, he'd shut up.

But he won't because he wants some lovey dovey from the Jew haters here.

  32. Julian says:

Mondoweiss can watch it on TV like the rest of us.

  33. Julian says:

    Suzanne:
"how about asking your buddy, Chas Freeman, to get the Saudis to subsidize you?
That would make a rather juicy news story."

I wonder who finances this blog? Two bloggers making a living on donations from the anti Israel cheapskates here. Doesn't seem possible.

  34. Suzanne says:

I was thinking it would be LOTS of fun to follow Mondoweiss around with a video camera when they went on this.

My kind of film project (raise that amount to $12,000 and count me in!) :-)

  35. Suzanne says:

"I wonder who finances this blog? Two bloggers making a living on donations from the anti Israel cheapskates here. Doesn't seem possible."

Rowan keeps threatening to shut this blog down. So maybe he is financing it. :-)

  36. LD says:

I use to read their posts entirely. But it's all the same variation of "antisemite, Holocaust, Islamofascism, Hitler!, blah blah".

At least it adds variety. We have interesting discussion and then fish-in-a-barrel -level opposition.

  37. anon says:

really phil shut suzanne up. please. just delete her comments and ban her. would you? i feel so disheartened every time this monster speaks.

  38. Chris Berel says:

And yet, even though so many of Phil's Phools advocate repealing the first amendment, the intellectuals slog on to defeat phil, adam, joachim and the rest of the antisemites here.

the truth does dishearten phools like anan.

  39. Julian says:

    Shirazi:
"If it's that important to you to go, pay your own damn fare. It's not like you're doing anyone else a favor, or that your going at some else's behest and have no independent interest of your own."

I wonder how many other Harvard educated beggars there are.
I don't really blame Phil. If he can get the suckers here to pay for his vacation, why would he reach into his own pocket.
Maybe if I start my own blog I can get a trip to Hawaii out of it.

  40. Ed says:

"the intellectuals slog on to defeat phil"

Intellectual Zionist is an oxymoron, Berel. You can either be one, or the other. But you're the other, so you still haven't been able to figure this basic concept out.

  41. Mountaingoat says:

The last time I donated, someone threw a shoe at me because I said the Jew word. That was discouraging, but I'll donate again anyway. You can count on it.

  42. Dagon says:

I read the first few words and scroll down.Dont bother with or by the zionofascists.Just donatd for a worthy trip.

  43. Gene says:

I'll contribute, too. Thanks for doing this.

  44. Joshua says:

"I'll help send you to hell Phil, but that's about it."

In a surprising turn of events, Chris Berel is going to pledge. (Gaza = hell.)

  45. Joshua says:

"And yet, even though so many of Phil's Phools advocate repealing the first amendment, the intellectuals slog on to defeat phil, adam, joachim and the rest of the antisemites here."

You mean all of these comments are what the founding fathers had in mind for the first amendment? You even suggested that you want Phil in hell. Brilliant. And yet you continue the screed of "anti-Semitism" here and there and everywhere. Why do you even bother coming here?

I don't understand the need for vitriol towards Phil. He wants to pursue this and since when is it such a crime to ask for donations? How many websites out there do such a thing for "reputable reporting" in exchange? Even mainstream newspapers ask for a pledge and radio and etc. I doubt you all would keep this same reaction if Michael Totten did the same thing (his latest trip was sponsored by a right-wing think tank).

  46. Rowan says:

At least Suzanne is occasionally funny, but Berel's a real pest, without any amusing qualities at all. They turn these people out of their so-called Hillels and what-not with no instructions and no skills, except to (a) hate all critics of Israel and (b) accuse them as continuously as possible of being fans of David Duke and Stormfront, 'Jew-haters' or 'self-haters' whichever applicable, and (c) invent Freudian-sounding personality defects to attribute to them, to explain their 'hatred of Jews'.

Now if these people aren't the real 'haters', I'm a … Jew!

  47. I'm willing to bet you couldn't squeeze a dime out of Chris Berel's tight ass, even to finance a trip to Hell. Liberal White Boy is willing to pony up however. But I'd rather send you to the federal court trying the AIPAC espionage case to find out what the hell is going on there. As usual nothing from our Main Semite Media(MSM). As for some of you Phil bashers, I'm about ready to report you to the Anti Defamation League. That organization must exist for some reason.

  48. Julian says:

    Joshua:
"I don't understand the need for vitriol towards Phil. He wants to pursue this and since when is it such a crime to ask for donations? How many websites out there do such a thing for "reputable reporting" in exchange?"

In the real world people pay for things out of their own pockets and don't beg for donations. You can turn your bank account over to him if that's want you want. I won't contribute a penny to his narcissistic ramblings.
