In their own words (Israeli diplomacy edition)

Avigdor Lieberman is showing off some of his diplomatic chops. From the JTA:

At a meeting of his Yisrael Beiteinu Party, Avigdor Lieberman said
Israel's government will work to "formulate the policy compatible with
our world view and as the voters wanted in the elections," the
Jerusalem Post reported.

But, Lieberman cautioned, "This will not happen overnight, and they should not stand over us with a stopwatch in hand."

"We have never interfered in the affairs of others, and we expect from others that they not interfere in ours," he added.

Putting aside the craziness of an illegal settler like Lieberman claiming not to "interfere in affairs of others", can he even honestly make this claim about the Israeli relationship to the US?

Reminds me of the one hour Q & A with Lawrence Summers that just finished on CSPAN 1–he doesn't come down in favor of any conflicting(economic) forces; he merely acknowledges they all exist, and have their pros and cons. The point with Summers, is you have to look at what he has, and actually does. For example his reaping huge profits from hedge funds. More there than anything he says about how he personally
decided how to handle the conflicting (economic) POVs and interests.

As Phil points out, Lieberman is an illegal settler who wants no stop watch on such settlements.
Such settlements have long been recognized by official USA policy as a barrier preventing peace in the Middle East.

What will Obama do with such obvious bias?

lol…Israel only exists because of the interference of others.

Is there any "interference in the affairs of others" bigger than a 42 year old occupation? Lieberman is admitting here that the occupation is an internal affair in the minds of the Israeli government. There already is but one state. The rest is smoke and mirrors.

Both Shariq & tree get the point. How do you think about this?

Personally, it gives new meaning to chutzpah.
Why is this a yiddish world?
Why would anyone be proud of it?
    Balls are as balls do?

    world=word?
Not sure it makes a difference though. It surely is not Christian in spirit.

The two links that Adam gives in his post are essential reading. Absolutely essential.

What Americans dont understand and need to know is that Avigdor Lieberman and his best friend Mossad head Meir Dagan are avowed USA-haters. This is documented. Was so about four years ago. They are both leftovers of a communist USSR who despised the USA.

  9. MRW. says:

Whoops. Meant to write: They are both leftovers of a communist USSR faction who despised the USA.

    @ MRW

For sure. Nothing like knowing that the core of our IT is tapped by Israel 24/7. And that if you want a white collar career of any political influence at all, you must genuflect to Israel and its
minions here, in the land of the free, the home of the brave. Talk about invasion of the body snatchers…

Hmmm, let's see, not to mention that he loves the "interference" in Israeli affairs the U.S. provides by way of the money it passes it, here's a guy who very possibly only *got* to Israel because Israel and its partisans persuaded the U.S. to interfere with the internal affairs of the Soviet Union in the form of the Jackson-Vanik Amendment so as to force it to allow people like Lieberman to leave. And then of course we (the U.S.) also largely *paid* for those who did leave and resettle in Israel via unbelievably generous payments to Israel over and above our ordinary payments made to it. And indeed if I'm not mistaken tens of millions of our ordinary payments are *still* designated as helping Israel re-settle jews from other countries.

And no, Jonathan Pollard wasn't an attempted interference in our internal affairs either I guess.

Amazing ingratitude; after all the U.S. has done for Israel for him to say that.
