I remember how in early 1990 Zuckerman's U.S. News ran a cover story about how dangerous Saddam Hussein was, with his threats against Israel. I think the story also covered weapons of mass destruction, but I forget whether that included nukes.

The cover picture was entitled something like "The Most Dangerous Man in the World." That was months before Saddam's invasion of Kuwait, and while the Bush I administration was still striving to maintain good relations with Saddam.

I would not be that pessimistic about HuffPo. They cannot move to the Likud right on Israel because it would alienate many of their readers. The responses to Zuckerman's article shows that. I have problem with them publishing him since he does represent a very real political position in this country and the responses to him show how poorly organized the hasbara really is.

I loved the comments on the Huffington Post. Few statements in support of Zuckerman and Israel were left unchallenged. It is highly concerning that people continue to consider the Palestinians "different" from other people in terms of human emotions, desires and needs.

Responding to someone on a recent Tikun Olam post, I had cause to research news in a couple of categories. The websites set up to propagate adverse news reports about Palestine, Lebanon and Iran are instructive for discerning the methods and purpose of those who support Israel. Such use of the media is effective; see previous efforts in the form of cartoons by Oleg, for the Women in Green website. http:// www.womeningreen.org/olegindex. htm (remove spaces.)

If I may plug a couple of other sites: there are some great photos of the University of Gaza at Tony Greenstein's UK site, as well as notice of a troubling incident of censorship in the UK. Richard Silverstein, Jewssansfrontieres and The Magnes Zionist, among others, have been posting information of value to those who post on Mondoweiss and participants at The Huffington Post.

I experienced a sense of community reading the responses to Zuckerman.
