All roads lead back to Nuremberg, 1945. Those trials, led by the US, formulated universal laws recognized internationally for the first time in human history. They spawned new crimes, e.g., crimes of aggressive war, of crimes against humanity, etc; the UN, again led heavily by the US, extended, parsed, more details, as has Geneva. The irony is that the US has ignored this great step forward (as has Israel) when it comes to enabling Israel's transgressions--Israel draws its validation as a state among the world's states from the UN vote itself--where would Israel be today if, after proclaiming its existence, neither Truman or Stalin would have recognized it, especially so fast? Both Israel and the USA deserve their current reputation in the world because the world now applies the consensus standard advocated by the US at Nuremberg.

The National Interest, a Realist FP mag., has long opposed neoconservative dogma. They are published by The Nixon Center. Now they are cozyng up to the Left. It doesn't get weirder than that.
