No less troubling is the thought [actually a claim, by Netanyahu] that Israel's

Shalit cannot wait… Hamas' terms are known; any improvements that
Netanyahu might gain will not alter the substance of the terms, and
certainly do not justify keeping Shalit imprisoned another day.
At least this editorial gets right to the heart of the matter, as

free Shalit as quickly as possible.

It would take far more courage to write Shalit off instead. Any release of prisoners for Shalit's remains will only encourage more kidnappings, which is a crime against humanity that this hate site seems indifferent to.
For Israeli poiticians, Shalit's captivity is a useful pretext for the IDF's permanent war against Palestinian women and children. Ironically, Shalit is of greater use to Netanyahu in captivity than being freed. Once Hamas releases Shalit, then Bibi himself has to release 1,000 Palestinians (including women, children and non-violent Parliamentarians), freeze settlements and come to the bargaining table immediately.

I think you've got it the wrong way round. It was Israel who abducted thousands of Palestinians first and seeing as it's impossible for Hamas to do the same, they tried to get as many as they could in return for a swap. They're only playing to Israel's prejudices who have always valued a Jew a lot more highly than an Arab.

Shalit is entitled to the very same high standards of treatment the US has meted out to its Arab victims. I hope Shalit is being waterboarded numerous times every day. I hope they have knocked his teeth out.
Gilad Shalit is just a pawn to the Israeli government. If they truly cared about his safety, they would not have bombed every conceivable place in Gaza; they could have killed him or irritated his captors to the point of killing him.

Do you honestly think Hamas couldn't "orchestrate the deaths of many Jews" right now if they felt like it, without those "mass murderers" sitting illegally in Israeli prisons? That the thousands of Palestinians (mostly civilians) being held know some secret that Hamas needs in order to unleash its true "terrorist" power? The al Qassam brigades are more than capable of launching a new armed campaign if they want to, and if you were to broaden your reading beyond the scope of the JPost and Yedioth Ahronoth, you'd know that Hamas has been keeping a lock on the Brigades, that the few rockets that have been launched since the end of the Gaza offensive were done so out of order, and that the Hamas leadership has fired several commanders. The reason Israel hasn't seen an aggressive Hamas as of late is a political one — the idea that they're waiting for the truly talented "murderers and terrorists" to be released is right-wing Zionist fantasy.
