Nightmare, or bad spy novel, or unindicted coconspirator (the Israel lobby)

Shocker. Politico's Josh Gerstein reports that after former AIPAC lobbyists Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman were indicted four years back under the Espionage Act (charges lately dropped), the Pentagon official who had informed on Rosen/Weissman, Larry Franklin, was approached by one of the targets of the investigation and asked to fake his own death so as to abort the case.

This is according to Justice Department filings aimed at reducing Franklin's sentence. Gerstein:

"Just prior to the entry of his guilty plea, Franklin was approached
by two individuals who made a pitch to Franklin about faking his death
by suicide and disappearing, thus thwarting any cooperation in the case
against Rosen and Weissman," prosecutors wrote in a brief filed in
connection with a motion to reduce the 12-year prison term Franklin was
originally sentenced to.

"In January 2006, Franklin conducted five consensually recorded
telephone conversations with one of these individuals, in support of an
obstruction of justice/witness tampering investigation; however, the
FBI was unable to obtain the requisite incriminating evidence to
support a criminal investigation," the Justice Department brief said.

This is funny weird, not funny ha-ha, and underscores my feeling that We don't know the half of it about the official political conspiracy involving the Israel lobby. Interesting that Franklin was approached by one of his own targets, which suggests that the individual was part of the Israel lobby; that the individual was not indicted; and yet the person's suggestion–fake your own death–has the sound of a threat. Who cares?

Gee I wonder what country was behind the suggestion to Franklin. After all he was gonna have to go and hide and live somewhere other than in the U.S. probably, right?

  2. doug says:

You read too much into the report. It says Franklin was approached by two men, one of whom was subsequently recorded with Franklin's cooperation. They appear not to have been targets prior to the contact.

Do you want to hear something that is funny — from an earlier Politico piece:

"(Larry Franklin) didn't know at the time that Rosen and Weissman worked for the pro-Israel lobbying group (AIPAC)."

  4. Sand says:

From the same source — this blogger picked up something else:

"…In response to a question from Ellis Thursday, Franklin confirmed speculation that his rendezvous with Rosen and Weissman was arranged by Michael Makovsky, a former energy analyst for the Pentagon. Makovsky, who has left the government, was not charged in the case and was expected to be a witness at the trial of Rosen and Weissman…" Makovsky's brother and father are both in Sibel Edmonds' State Secrets Privilege Gallery.

There is something extremely callous about the way certain Jews view gentile humanity, as if it is comprised of mere pawns or script characters that can and should be eliminated or written out of existence when they become inconvenient to Jewish interests. The Jewish element in Hollywood behaves this way, and the Jewish Neocons who participated in the engineering of the Iraq war behaved as if the narrative they were constructing, about how wonderfully the whole enterprise would turn out and what heroes they all would be, was a Hollywood script. They seem to believe they can script reality to their will, and even if it goes awry resulting in the death of tens or hundreds of thousands, they can just script their way out of that, too. In fact, they can, because they are allowed to by corrupt and effete “elite” collaborators of both parties too soft and complicit to hold them to accounts. Just look at this “Where are they now”? summary: ” target=”_blank”>http://original.antiwar.com/giraldi/2009/06/22/wh… Any system that allows that kind of swine to go unpunished, and actually rewarded, is far more illegitimate than the regime in Iran.

"We don't know the half of it about the official political conspiracy involving the Israel lobby." Official political conspiracy? What does that mean? Do you have any proof or is just your imaginings good enough?Rosen and Weissman were indicted because they were members of AIPAC, no other reason. Lobbyists and reporters handle far more sensitive information and no indictments. There are even blogs that specialize in secret information. No indictments. 5 bugged phone conversations and not a shred of evidence. Isn't that enough to put people in jail?

  8. Thom says:

No, it's funny hahaha. What the filings basically say is the Franklin told them a story about these guys, but that there was no evidence beyond his word, and his story didn't hold up when he talked to these guys on the phone five separate times. Why an unconvincing fantasy about someone asking him to fake his own death should reduce his sentence I don't know. In fact, even if someone had asked him to fake his own death, I don't see why that should reduce his sentence.

It's not that we don;t know the half of it. We don't know a scintilla of it. But here's what's weird about the whole commotion — the prosecutors are seeking to reduce Franklin's sentance from 12 years to 10 months. They say that somebody told him to fake his own suicide. How is this supposed to reduce his sentence? Doesn't it speak to the need to have more investigation to see if there's a conspiracy of guilt, rather than innocence? How is this exculpatory? the fact that Judge Elliott did sentence Franklin to 12 years speaks to his integrity . . . but this new revelation (thank you Phil) does suggest that there was a conspiracy of sorts to free the AIPAC Two. Everything is for sale in this country. Everything.

  11. Joe Schick says:

The Judge already reduced Franklin's sentence to 10 months home confinement. ” target=”_blank”>http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/arti… This post is just sour grapes by Phil.

Let's review. Most of the 1940s-50s arms smugglers for the Haganah, who violated the Neutrality Act, from Charles Winters, Al Schwimmer, Hank Greenspun were pardoned. Most US nonprofits stealing and smuggling arms were never indicted. Yet US charity leaders convicted on secret testimony from Israeli intelligence types are sentenced to *decades* in prison. ” target=”_blank”>http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xf… Welcome to the two track US legal system. LWZ (lawbreaking while Zionist) is not punished, LWP (while Palestinian) is. The AIPAC trial is only icing on the cake. All of the thinks establishment media condemned (secret evidence in particular) was deployed in the HLF trial, and they didn't make a peep. Let's not call it the justice system anymore.

There might actually be goys that stupid in our government, and in key places where they should've known–that's the nature of the goy.

  14. Andy Licje says:

It's not really a question of low IQ. The key thing is American goys do not have the world internalized as a war between jews and goys from birth–the importance of the Jewish mama or the very rich Jewish dad in case of intermarriage. The sense of Americans being chosen is like 1% compared to the sense of Jews anywhere being chosen. While its not good to be brought up thinking you are nothing, that usually hurts you; OTH, when you are brought up thinking you are special, it more often hurts others more directly than yourself.

"…The indictment says Mr. Franklin sought the help of a senior lobbyist for Aipac in getting a job at the National Security Council; that he enlisted the Israeli diplomat to write a letter for his daughter to ease her travels in the Middle East, and that he discussed with that diplomat weapons tests for a Middle Eastern country. Coffees were sipped, sandwiches purchased, and at one point the Israeli diplomat gave Mr. Franklin a gift card…

Phil wrote, "This is funny weird, not funny ha-ha, and underscores my feeling that We don't know the half of it about the official political conspiracy involving the Israel lobby." The words of the former deputy research director for AIPAC, Martin Indyk: "Successive…administrations have used AIPAC’s power on the Hill, not only for the sake of Israel aid, but for Egypt’s aid, for Jordon’s aid, for aid to the Palestinians, the Palestinian authority, the people are for the whole foreign aid budget would not pass without AIPAC’s influence. The whole free trade agreement process was started with the US- Israel free trade agreement. Why? Because that was the only way the …., now we’re talking about the Regan administration could get it through Congress was with AIPAC’s help. And once they established the free trade agreement with Israel it became possible to get free trade agreements and that was the precursor to NAFTA and so on." ” target=”_blank”>http://bayesianheresy.blogspot.com/2007/09/isreal…

  21. Ed says:

Good rule of thumb: If AIPAC or the Zionists have their fingerprints anywhere in the process, it's bad policy for average Americans and good policy for the revolving door of Left/Right Statists and plutocrats.

  22. Stephen says:

This little Franklin fake suicide item is all about is sore loser-itis on the part of the DOJ and the US intelligence establishment. Poor babies, they are in denial and frustrated having totally wasted 5 years of time and money and having nothing to show for it. They feel they have been insufficiently successful in making enough people miserable to satisfy themselves. What they wanted was jail and bankruptcy, and they are so so disappointed in having failed to get that, and revealing themselves once again as nincampoop incompetents. So therefore they leak this little poisonous fake suicide story, just to sully, denigrate, and run down Rosen/Weissman, hoping that this phony insinuation, fake rumor, unproved and unaccountable allegation will salve the DOJ and "intelligence" agencies own sorry reputation. They hope the result will be that people will think: "Oh, so Rosen/Weissman are actually really guilty, and only got off on a technicality, and because they are influential Jews don't you know". The tactics are evil and pernicious, obviously, and DOJ and US counterintelligence services need to be called to account.
