This is common hasbara bullshit. While it was under Jordanian rule, students in the West Bank could easily go to universities in Jordan or Egypt or elsewhere. Most Palestinian colleges were two year institutions. It was only after Israel occupied the West Bank that it was made difficult (by Israel) to attend these four year universities in other countries, so the Palestinians set up full four year universities in the West Bank and Gaza. Israel did not provide these facilities, the Palestinians did it for themselves. The Palestinians have always as a group been highly educated. Ignorant hasbarists who don't know the history of the universities simply make the assumption that because the schools became 4 year universities after the Israeli occupation that somehow Israel must have created them. This is not true. Israel simply created the need for them, by making it difficult for most Palestinian students under occupation to attend full universities in other Arab countries, or difficult for them to return to the West Bank from their studies abroad.

Why has no one mentioned that the first university there only opened after Israel controlled the area? While it was under Arab rule, illiteracy was the common practice.

From Some Thoughts on "Islamic Terror" for Professional anti-Islamists like Pipes : Israeli Zionists are the bad guys and represent an evil in the world today just as the German Nazis did in the 30s. Nowadays, we Americans are the bad guys because we are allied with Israeli Zionists. We Americans have to accept that Americans and Israeli Zionists may be subjected to attacks by billions of people justifiably enraged at our policies, just as Germans whether military or civilian were subject to attacks by the French, Polish, Russian and Yugoslav resistance during WW2. As the bad guys and allies of the bad guys we Americans have no more right to criticize the tactics of the resistance than the German Nazis had. In retrospect and to this day we consider the anti-Nazi resistance heroes that fought for all of humanity. Likewise the Palestinian resistance today is heroic and fights for all of humanity.

I've spent a lot of time in Israel and the OT. Non-jews of both genders are treated like garbage there. In short, the level of putrid discrimination is much much more basic. Feminism is secondary to the most elementary humanism. Israel needs to get to step one before step two of basic human rights.

Suggestion two: Obama should use the leverage of 8 million US taxpayer dollars a day pouring into the coffers of the Israeli Jews.
