Martin Kramer story, in the Harvard Crimson. It’s about time the neocons are put on the spot, eh? They used to put realists on the spot, and lefties. Mood is shifting. Watch out David Frum and Bill Kristol, the money will dry up next!
“I called on [Western countries] to desist from deliberately encouraging births through pro-natal subsidies for Palestinian ‘refugees,’ which guarantee that Gazans will remain both radicalized and dependent,” Kramer wrote on his blog, entitled “Sandbox.”
While several critics have equated Kramer’s proposal with genocide, some students on campus took issue with the comments’ implications for refugee children.
“What Kramer is essentially calling for is population control by starvation,” said Felix de Rosen ’13, a member of the Palestinian Solidarity Committee (PSC). “If you really want to control population growth, you do it through development, not by starving the children of refugees.”
Kramer told the audience that in countries in which the median population age is less than 20—among Palestinians, the median age is 17, he said—“Islamist radicalization is taking place on a massive scale.”
Citing Osama bin Laden, who is the 17th of 55 children, Kramer stated that “radical Islam is a way for the superfluous sons to enter history.”

Julius Streicher said that decreasing fertility rates will eventually lead aging populations to “reject radical agendas.” He commended Germany’s economic sanctions on the Warsaw Ghetto for having had the effect of breaking “the Ghetto’s runaway population growth” and undermining the Jewish regime.

(EXCERPT) Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have been shaming the United States with their strong stand on Israel and UN-related issues, and now this is extremely welcome news: Canada will no longer be writing checks to UNRWA, but only funding specific projects: “Help, not hate”
“Help, not hate”, The National Post (Canada), 01/25/10
Since last fall, the federal Conservative government has been withdrawing taxpayer funding from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that use their grants to take sides against Israel in the Middle East conflict. Now comes word that last week, Ottawa told the United Nations it would no longer fund the world body’s Palestinian refugee agency. From now on, Canadian aid to Palestinians will be directed to specific projects. We will no longer give lump-sum aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA), since most of that money simply goes straight into the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) general treasury, where it might be used for humanitarian projects or might be used to arm and train terrorists…

The guy is just digging himself a whole with all this talk that we need to stop brown Muslim people from having children. Anybody who gets to decide that anyone’s son is “superfluous” isn’t just a monster — he’s a collaborator in crimes against humanity.
It bears repeating.
May I?
Anybody who gets to decide that anyone’s son is “superfluous” isn’t just a monster — he’s a collaborator in crimes against humanity.
Please do. Thanks!
“In a statement e-mailed to The Crimson, Weatherhead Center officials stated that Kramer’s comments fell within the realm of academic speech, which embraces controversy.”
Like my alma mater Columbia, except when the speech is directed AGAINST Israel.
What I find especially appalling is the ease with which his proposal for Muslim infanticide oozes from his being. How can his talk about “superfluous young men” be taken any other way than a Krameresque plot to convince Western nations to take away the UN aid, starve the children en masse, and “control” the population growth through the slow, agonizing, painful deaths of infants?
How shameful that Harvard responds by denying Kramer’s own words . . . the response to EI stated that Kramer was suggesting that the formula for receiving UN aid encouraged Palestinian families to be larger — and that no matter what Kramer said, it would be protected by “academic free speech.” Once again, Harvard elites think the rest of us are stupid.
Though Weatherhead is trying to spin Kramer’s hatespew as mere Muslim family planning, you can bet Kramer would have no problem with this story:

“It would be inappropriate for the Weatherhead Center to pass judgment on the personal political views of any of its affiliates, or to make affiliation contingent upon some political criterion,” wrote Beth Simmons, Jeffry Frieden, and James Robinson—director and acting directors of the Weatherhead Center, respectively—in the statement.
from Weatherhead Fellow Incites Controversy
CM: This isn’t a question of the validity of political views or imposition of a political criterion for continued employment. It’s a question of rank racism and lack of adherence to very basic human values (and need I say, AMERICAN, values?), and an elementary moral criterion for affiliation is not only completely appropriate, but necessary to preserve Harvard’s reputation. Obviously Simmons, Frieden, and Robinson have other priorities, perhaps not offending their private sector funding.
Citing Osama bin Laden, who is the 17th of 55 children, Kramer stated that “radical Islam is a way for the superfluous sons to enter history.”
Without all that UN aid received by wealthy Saudi families, Osama’s daddy would certainly have had fewer kids. I’m wondering though, was Osama the only “supefluous” one? If so, up to 16 kids per family would seem to be perfectly fine and, on average, even up to 54 – assuming those UN checks keep rolling in.
You beat me to it.
If that’s the quality of his other research or arguments, then it’s anyone’s guess how this guy got as far as he did in life.
Imagine if this guy were talking about how Social Security should be cut back because it encourages the survival of “superfluous” elderly and disabled people? Or better yet, elminate welfare to put an end to the breeding of “superfluous” African Americans — remember those golden oldies from the right wing back in the Reagan years, rhetoric about so-called “welfare queens?”
If there’s one place that has “superfluous young males” it’s the Haredi sector in Israel, where the shababnikim escape the tedium of their yeshivas to riot in the streets at any provocation.
“Judaic radicalization” doesn’t seem to be a problem for Kramer.
Indeed. Why isn’t he using the same language to talk about radical Jewish settlers in the West Bank, if his viewpoint is truly consistent? Or better yet — like I said above, why limit this to foreign affairs? Can’t the same logic be applied to minority communities in the United States, who are consistently convicted and imprisoned at higher rates than whites (never mind that most crimes in the US are committed by whites by dint of pure mathematics)
shababnikim?
lol
Avi, I didn’t make that one up, but I do love it.
I’ve never heard it before. But, like you said, I do love it. It’s hilarious.
Alright, let the dull witted amongst the readers know what the joke is. And by dull witted, I mean me.
It’s a typical Israeli linguistic mashup. “shabab” is the Arab term for the youth of the streets, prone to troublemaking. “nik” is a suffix from Russian and “im” is a Hebrew plural form.
“Shabab” is actually even more generic than that — as I recall, it simply the plural form of the word for “man.” My Arabic has become very rusty with disuse, however, so I would appreciate a second opinion.
But its a pretty good play on words for Israel’s stock propaganda tactic — take any word in Arabic, distort (or lie) about its meaning, and then capitalize on the provincial ignorance of the average American.
That a person, especially someone who’s a fellow at such an academic institution, can get away with such outrageous racist arguments speaks volumes about Harvard and the state of affairs in the US.
Had he been speaking about Jews, he’d have certainly been ostracized and his comments would have been mentioned on every cable news network in the US.
RE: “Watch out David Frum and Bill Kristol, the money will dry up next!” – Philip
MY COMMENT: ‘Dream on’, Phillip! That reminds me, I had a dream last night about your subway platform sing-along. It contained a cameo appearance by ‘The One And Only NULL’ and a Slew of identical (dark brown, no blaze) horse heads. I’ll ‘fill in’ the details when I have more time.
P.S. Funny thing, though. There were no subway trains; only buses (dual-powered, I think) where the subway trains should have run. And almost everyone was drinking a Venti® cup of Starbucks coffee. Now, don’t that beat all? “A mind is a terrible thing……”
RE: “Citing Osama bin Laden, who is the 17th of 55 children, Kramer stated…”
FROM WIKIPEDIA: …Osama bin Laden was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.[5] In a 1998 interview, he gave his birth date as March 10, 1957.[6] His father Muhammed Awad bin Laden was a wealthy businessman with close ties to the Saudi royal family.[7] Osama bin Laden was born the only son of Muhammed bin Laden’s tenth wife, Hamida al-Attas. Osama’s parents divorced soon after he was born; Osama’s mother then married Muhammad al-Attas. The couple had four children, and Osama lived in the new household with three half-brothers and one half-sister.[8]…
Gee, did he even try to mention Thomas Malthus? Or was he too busy channeling Reihard Heydrich?
This was not limited to Muslims. I guess Palestinian Christians are breeding like rabbits as well.
What do you want to bet the guys non-Israeli friends at Harvard don’t actually know that, huh?
Kramer’s great fault is not that this genocidal process not taking place – because it is, it is that he mentions it in public. It is just like all of the genocidal activity taking place currently in Africa (not just Darfur), which is not mentioned – but just as insidious and purposeful, by those “who know what is best” for the natives. We become incensed that he mentions and supports it as we should, but not outraged that it is a current process
If someone wants to argue about the word “genocide” I use, rest assured I can factually and verbally take you apart. If you are surprised by this process taking place elsewhere, than you can thank your media sources. However, to be a proponent of this process makes you a fascist Nazi-like pig.
