Definitely. When I was living in Bethlehem I could sense a great underlying tension between some Christian and Muslim Palestinians. I talked to a few people about this and they would talk of how when they were children there was really no perceived difference. They were all friends. During and after the Intifadas, Israel increasingly played the two communities against each other by using different policies that were favorable to one side or another.

That said there is still a great coalition coming together to resist the occupation. It is full spectrum. You saw it in the video. Palestinian Christians walked with Palestinian Muslims, Palestinian Muslims walked with Israeli Jews etc.

Also, the two friends that I mention in my piece who were detained, Marwan and Ahmad are Muslims. The fact that they work with a Christian organization shows the commitment that they and many others have in bringing about an end to the occupation.

I'll bet something like 2% of the American public knows there are any Palestinian Christians - any Arab Christians, for that matter.

It is amazing how the conflict is mostly taken up with the so-called religious war between the Jews and Muslims, while the Christian community and its persecution by the Israelis is entirely submerged - censored from the "news" in the states. While we hear an assorted number of propaganda pieces on how the Muslims supposedly persecute Christians, as if Palestinians are not both Muslims and Christians. The truth be told is is primarily Israel's policies which have driven away the Christian presence in the territory. It is a systematic effort to cleanse the Palestinian Christians as well as Muslims from the region. Much of the resistance in the past and present comes from Palestinian Christians ( Emile Habibi, Anton Shammas, Elia Suleiman, Hany Abu Assad, Antoine Shalhat, Azmi Bishara, Edward Said, Nayif Hawatmeh, George Habash, etc.).
