what recession?

JPost says IDF raised $20 million at the Waldorf the other night:

There was scarce evidence of the global recession at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser for the IDF in New York City on Tuesday night.

If the $5.2 million in tax exempt dollars raised on behalf of the Friends of the IDF in Beverly Hills last December 17 was either outrageous or impressive depending on one's point of view, what can one say about the 1300 Jews who coughed up $20 million for the benefit Israeli military on Tuesday at the Waldorf-Astoria? A more effective tactic than holding a silent vigil outside of the hotel on occasions like this would be for pro-Palestinian activists to make flyers publicizing such events and distribute them throughout the city, and particularly at a time when there are not enough tax dollars to keep many of the city's, not to mention the nation's schools, open.

P.S. Chabad is having a fundraiser/auction/concert on the Upper East Side this Sunday:

"While we just lived through the greatest financial contraction of our lifetime, the business of Torah is more vigorous and vibrant than ever. Over the last year at Chabad of the Upper East Side we have experienced a spurt of growth... What is most exciting is how despite the economic turmoil we have added two great programs... Charity begins at home. Invest in Jewish children..."

We New Yorkers are blessed with Attorney General Cuomo who keeps the media busy with recurring dog and pony shows that feature Long Island lawyers who managed to get New York State pensions. Thanks to Wall Street crooks, state and local government pension funds in New York State have lost billions. Rather than attempt to recover any of the ill gotten billions for New Yorkers, Cuomo takes campaign donations from the crooked firms and declares his record proves he is qualified to be our next governor. And he is adored by the media. Will someone please get Eliot Spitzer to run.

    the business of Torah

    I see.

  3. How many of those 1,300 Jews got their millions or billions from public funds purloined by fellow Jews? Such as Mayor Bloomberg’s deals with developers Ratner and Silverstein. Or the Fed’s Ben Shalom Bernanke’s bailout of Goldman Sachs.

raising private U.S. money in support of a foreign army that commits war crimes is legal here?

… oh that’s right, the israeli lobby changes our laws to suit them – like the one through Commerce Dept. that makes it a felony to join in a boycott of israel (and you have to report yourself)

Yes, and let’s not forget the federal department we support which monitors global anti-semitism. Now, that will help you with your home foreclosure, just as the next war with Iran will help you at the gas pump. I hear there’s a new program afloat that will give Jewish Israelis American food stamps. It’s being backed by the Black Caucas and the Daughters Of The American Revolution.
