What leaders will decry Henochowicz’s ‘devastating injury’?

on 15 Comments

Emily Henochowicz, the 21-year-old Cooper Union student whose left eye was destroyed by Israeli soldiers in Palestine yesterday during a protest of the flotilla raid, has a blog. You will see that she is a person of great imagination. On her "about" page appears this imageeye

and the words, "A visual adventure!" Let’s look for important expressions from Henochowicz down the road.

Cooper Union has issued a completely safe/noncommital statement on the matter. Notice the scaly evasion, "a tear gas canister hit her in the face." Oh, and a bullet paralyzed Dean Kahler.

On May 31st, Emily Henochowicz a junior student in the School of Art who is currently studying at Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem, was seriously wounded suffering the loss of her left eye. The injury occurred while

Emily was taking part in a demonstration at Qalandiya checkpoint when a tear gas canister hit her in the face. Emily is currently being treated in Hadassah Hospital. Yael Vishnizki Levi, who was on exchange at the School of Art at Cooper Union in Fall 2009, has been constantly with Emily. Emily’s father, Stuart Henochowicz MD, is now at her bedside.

The Cooper Union community expresses our concern and support for Emily. Our thoughts and prayers are with Emily and her family as she recovers from this devastating injury.

Thanks to Susie Kneedler.

Emily is an Art student. Her career would rely on…her eyes. Both of them. She should sue the Israelis for a lifetime of damages.

Thanks, Phil, for such an apt vision of Emily Henochowicz’s vision. And, yes, mok: I’ve been worrying about the IDF “snatching” Emily’s eye, too, for since blinding Tristan Anderson in one eye by shooting a tear-gas canister directly at his face, soldiers must surely know what the injury will be.
But as her art beguiles me to wonder about everything and look for undiscovered joy, even when facing treachery, I’m comforted that Emily will continue to teach us all. Here’s what I wrote on the earlier thread:
Emily’s rendering of her work and her spirit expresses such a lovely merging of insight with lively, touching mirth: devastating knowledge, lilting motion onward, uplifting pleasure even in facing unconscionable cruelty. How she inspires, laughing even as she stands with justice, “seeing” in all ways infinitely much, and giving us always more: more questions, more joy, more unending valor.
I worried about how losing an eye that perceives so much–and shows us so vividly how to behold– would affect Emily’s sense of creativity. But, as each of her creations transfixes, drawing me to marvel evermore, I feel Emily Henochowicz will keep on surprising–and captivating–us all.
Emily’s “regard” for the world, for all of us, invites us to change the way we “regard” our efforts, both in terms of sight and, more, of affection. Emily, please know know how much you already mean to us. We’re thinking of you with love and awe–and gratitude. Thanks, Emily.

this is like a rachel corrie moment… i am very sorry to hear of this and my wish is that israel will stop it’s bullshit while the world community will say enough is enough to israel as well.. unfortunately a number of politicians don’t get involved unless they are directly involved in this kind of thing thru a family member, or close friend.. i truly wish more politicians grew a backbone and if any out their are reading this, learn how to be independent and a voice for change instead of this bs…

the Obama administration’s near-silence and refusal to allow the UN Security Council to issue a strong condemnation comes down to one thing: the approaching 2010 election and the calculation the Obama-ites have made that they need American jews’ money. As Phil and others have pointed out – citing learned surveys – between 40% and 60% of money raised by the Democratic Party comes from the 2% of American jews

… this incident should be the dividing line for American jews who support security, peace and prosperity for jews around the world as opposed to those who have a blood-lust for conquest in the name of zionism

I feel so terrible for this heroic and passionate young woman. It seems an especially cruel irony that she uses an eye as her icon with the words, “A Visual Adventure!” To lose her eye in such a horrible tragedy was anything but. How truly sad and disturbing. I am so very sorry she had to pay so high a price in her stand for justice. Words fail me.

Could you provide the the chronolgy of the events following Israeli withdrawal from Gaza?
Dershowitz has penned an article claiming ( Huffington Post )that the blockade of Gaza started after the rocket attacks from Hamas. My understanding is that the blockade started after the elction that brought Hamas to the power .

      – April 2001: First rocket by the military arm of Hamas, after the start of the Second Intifada.
      – September 2005: Israel withdrawal from Gaza Strip, start border control by “agreement” with PA/Fatah. Exports from Gaza reduced to 10%.
      – January 2006: Election, Hamas wins
      – Israel and Egypt reduced capacity, even to 0, of crossings.
Well, in I/P topics Wikipedia needs “Hasbara warning” sign and a explanation/checking counter encyclopedia.

But the answer to your question is: in general when Dershowitz says something, he is abusing the time-dimension. So your homework is: find the knot and the lie in his timeline.

I remeber of one article in Vanity Fair exposing the machinations of Elliot Abrams in planning a coup aginst Hamas ( I dont like thier fundamentalism but that is unimportnat as long as they dont impose it on Christians or any non muslims) with help of PA operative Dahlam in 2006 that went nowhere (well it made Hamsa more respectable.).

After the attack on the USS Liberty Israel learned a lesson — they can kill and maim Americans without fear of repercussions from our government. When Rachel Corrie was murdered by the Israelis, Maria Cantwell, then the freshman US senator from Washington, promised her family that a thorough investigation would be conducted. But then silence from Cantwell and nothing happened. This is what the special relationship entails. Things have not yet changed and it is doubtful that Emily will be given much support from out government now.

probably not the best idea to post the full name of her father on here, he is a prominent doctor whose contact information is readily available for anyone who can do a google search.

He was born in TA by the way in 1956.

Oh, how generous. Your old college buds penetrate her in the eye socket and you offer to help him sue the other people standing between you and your slavering Zionazi frat brothers and the rest of the Palestinian women and children on the West Bank.

Hi everyone hi from Turkiye. I am a mosleum and everyone is free about choosing the religion as u know. I want to say I feel so sorry about Emily. She got injured for humanity. I write it beacuse here people think that when an american died, americans consider it too much but when a mosleum or asian or africian died, american or other christian world never mind it. But here most mosleums consider all the inoffensive , quiet, mild, modest people that was killed and we never mind if they are christian or jewish. Beacuse we think that living is basic right and liberty of humans. Sorry for my bad english Pls think a bit about that. Does your media under the control of zionism ? How Israel can kill people so freely ? Who is Osama Bin Laden ? Who train Osama Bin Laden ? Do u know Osama Bin Laden was trained by CIA and FBI ? In the Muslim world , people think what is Al Qaide, where did Al Qaide born ? 100-200 years ago China , Russia, a part of Europe and most countries were under control of Mosleum states. Did u hear any murder about it ? When did the murder start ? When did the genocide start ?
