Repeat: Israelis kill an American. No story here

Apropos of Roger Cohen’s lament about No media attention for the killing of Furkan Dogan, here’s a superb report on Al Jazeera on the killing in East Jerusalem last month of Ziad Jilani, a 41-year-old who is said to be Palestinian-American. We’ve covered this case a number of times on this site. A few noteworthy points:

–It is evident from the report that Jilani drove down the wrong street at the wrong time, encountered a "flying checkpoint," apparently lost control of his car/was shot at– because, as the Israelis later stated, police thought he was a suicide attacker. As Jilani’s American wife Moira points out, if he was really intent on a suicide bombing, he’d have run toward the police after he jumped out of his car. No; he ran toward his relative’s house, and was shot twice, once at point blank range to the head

–The report is by Sherine Tadros and captures life in Palestinian Jerusalem; it shows Palestinians as normal, ordinary people. You don’t see reports like this on American television (though yes, Bob Simon’s report on the West Bank last year for "60 Minutes" was damn good). Notice Jilani’s three lovely daughters. They look like girls in any small town in America. Where is the American media?
