Sec’y Clinton seems to equate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism

US Politics
on 25 Comments

Urgent business, here. Hillary Clinton, three days ago, at a "Reception Hosted for the Jewish Community and Hannah Rosenthal, Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism," which Clinton describes as an "awesome responsibility."

President Obama and I are determined to curb anti-Semitism and to work to prevent the isolation of Israel internationally. So we are sending Hannah all over the world. (Laughter.) She’s available for bar and bat mitzvahs. (Laughter.) But seriously, she is pressing our case everywhere where two or more gather, it seems. And she needs your help.

Call me when the Democratic Party remembers that they work for Americans, not Israelis.

    >> So for Hannah, working to end anti-Semitism is not an item on her resume or a good project. This is personal. It is literally in the DNA of this woman and it is grounded in the reality of the Holocaust. It is built on persistent faith, passed on from her father, and it is rooted in the conviction that the world can be a better place, that we all are to be repairers of the breach and we never get the job done, but it is incumbent upon each of us to do our part.

Wow, that’s a whole lotta ass-sucking. (“Remember the Holocaust!”) So, how about repairing the breach in relations with the Muslim world, like Obama said he would do? The job never gets done, but it is incumbent upon Ms. Clinton and “each of us” to do our part.

    >> I have been very struck by how much fear there is in the world today and Hannah rightly pointed to that: economic fear that often causes people to say and do things that are not in keeping with our values; fear that the modern world is going to disrupt the kind of family culture and experience that people have traditionally held onto.

Nice of her to leave out “Islamofascism”, Al-Qaeda, Taliban and Iran. Maybe she’s just saving those for another day…

Hillary bends over to the I lobby over and over again. And the illegal settlements keep expanding. Bulldozing of Palestinians homes just keeps happening and Clinton bends over

Of course she does. She’d got the script, and gets paid to read it.

Amazing that in 2010 any criticism of Israel the I lobby and their policies and hold on our congress is defined as “anti semitism” Still pulling out that ace. People are just so tired of the hypocrisy

Time for Americans to stop allowing themselves to be put on the defensive.

It is not, repeat NOT incumbent upon any citizen of the US to profess support for Israel. It is the right and OBLIGATION of American citizens to protest actions by US government that do not represent US Constitutional requirements, rights, customs, and interests.

Jewish claims of special protection are NOT among those Constitutional requirements.

Americans need to stop being bullied by Jewish people who have a tendency to push the boundaries. Non-Jewish Americans have a right to push back, and to refuse to be put on the defensive with the charge, “antisemite.” Jewish people are going to have to be put on the defensive to show that their flows of money to charities that support illegal settlements, and their letters to the editor and think tank products that attempt to influence US policy in ways that are harmful to US interests, are not “anti-American.”

Smack of McCarthyism does it? Deal with it. Couple million dead Iraqis and some thousands of dead Palestinians never got the chance to have their rights protected.

I wonder how many of those gathered there caught the fact that Hilary was also making an allusion to the words of Jesus (Matthew 18:20).

how about Hannah’s allusion to Goldhagen’s thesis:

“Holocaust relativism not only distorts history, it diminishes the accountability, the understanding, and the lessons of how cultured people could become willing executioners, hoping to annihilate an entire people.”

Hannah and the Holocaust industrialist have the ability to read the minds of people, do they?

    >> Matthew 18:20: For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
    >> Hilary: But seriously, she is pressing our case everywhere where two or more gather, it seems.

If Hannah is always there “pressing our case”, that means those groups of two or more must be gathering in her name! ;-)

Holy crap, for a guy who his Dad got clipped by every guy in Nigeria with a laptop, he drives a hard bargain! I wonder when Hilary found time for all the lessons? And when did… Oh, never mind, I guess it’s done out-patient these days.

intellectually and philosophically Hillary totally gets the Palestinian side of things and her heart is probably with them … but her entire political career, and her husband’s has been bankrolled by zionists, so she shills for who butters her bread

not related, but had to post this one, since Richard Cohen has been discussed defending Israel before and he’s the WaPost liberal:

“The Swiss got it right. Their refusal to extradite film director Roman Polanski to the United States on a 33-year-old sex charge is the proper d√©nouement for this mess of a case. ”

the comments section is what’s is gratifying.
    “Richard,
I often respect your reasoning skills and your perspective.
This time you’ve got it all wrong.”

In a way yes..Since what Israel wants is to rid the world of its Jews and bring them to Israel..Exactly what the antisemites want..

I wonder how the American mainstream (that is, the so-called moderate-liberals through to the ultra-right-wing) would respond to charges of racism leveled at every critic of any Arab state.
