Normally we don’t encourage people to donate any specific amount. We're grateful for both the time you give to the site and whatever financial contribution you can make.
This month is a unique situation though. We have a donor who has agreed to match any donation $100 and over, dollar for dollar.
So since it’s Holiday Season (Happy Hanukkah! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!), we’ve decided to send two thank you gifts to anyone who can donate to our matching fund:
- Gift 1: The first ever Mondoweiss T-Shirt. You'll be able to wear the “War of Ideas in the Middle East” wherever you go and;
- Gift 2: A free signed and dedicated copy of our new book The Goldstone Report: The Legacy of the Landmark Investigation of the Gaza Conflict (it comes out in January, so please be patient on delivery of both gifts)...
If you’d like your gifts sent to someone else just let us know.
We also realize that a $100 donation is more than some people can afford, so we would also like to offer a Mondoweiss t-shirt to anyone who donates over $60.
The total matching funds available are $20,000. We will put up updates twice weekly on how we are doing. Our target is to fill the matching fund.
Thanks again for your support!
(While simpler, the Paypal donations are not tax-deductible.)
The address you fill in on the Groundspring site will be the address to which we send your t-shirt and book. For Paypal donations over $100, we will email you with a mailing address request.

I love the t-shirt idea. It’s a great way to spread the message.
I agree,
Money tight. Will make a small donation. Sending youngest kid off to Costa Rica next semester. Does anyone remember so many study abroad programs years ago? My oldest is 33 and I started being aware when she was in college at Oberlin that so many young folks are studying abroad now. Not just the rich kids. Being able to apply scholarships etc to the programs is such a great thing. I am filling in the money gaps for the youngest.
Anyway enough of the excuses. Will give what I can.
Will spread the word about the fund raiser. You folks sure deserve the support. Am so grateful for this site, the critical info, the insights, the discussions, the links. Thanks again and again.
phil, could you merge my mere 50 w/anothers 50 and get a matched donation for it? i couldn’t spill 100 right now but it drives me crazzzy my 50 won’t be matched. roll in all the little donations and get them to match it!
Hi Annie,
Merged donations are okay, but you have to do the merging. If you know someone else from Mondoweiss or have a circle of friends who might be able to make a collective donation of $100, by all means make the donation together. Your collective donation will be matched.
Thanks so much for your material support and the wonderful contribution you make to the site.
alec, thanks so much for your response. and no need to thank me for supporting this site, it is the least i can do. i hope my donation can be matched w/eljays. i’m so please to see in the few days i’ve been gone the donations have grown.
I just made a $50 donation strictly because I would like it merged with annie’s. If this can be done, please do so and have the anonymous donor match the $100 amount. If it can’t be done, well, it’s still a worthy cause.
Hi Eljay,
Thanks so much for your contribution. I’m not sure if Phil can merge the donations himself and get matched funds. Hopefully he can at least make it happen in this case.
Thanks, alec, much appreciated. And, like I said, if it can be done, that’s great; if it can’t be done, it’s still a worthwhile donation. :-)
great excellent wonderful eljay, i hope our donations can be matched together.
When I was an editor at the defunct Yellowtimes we had a discussion about a T-Shirt. I don’t remember if we actually did it or not, but I came up with the slogan:
Everything you need to know to become an FBI target.
I see you’ve resorted to scare tactics. Your user name certainly befits a contemptible person like you. By the way, no need to foam at the mouth at my calling you “contemptible” as we both know it’s your favorite word.
You should boycott Payapl: they’ve frozen the Wikileaks account.
Boycotting Paypal is tougher than boycotting Amazon. For a small organization and for international transfer of small sums worldwide, there is no other efficient means. Every other means results in 10% and higher fees and a lot more administrative overhead. Paypal is just 3% so this is a substantial material difference.
But thanks for the info. I’ll try to reduce the amount of business I transact via Paypal.

Don’t know if any of this could be really useful, but there it is.

Thanks for the suggestion, White Queen. Those alternatives are pretty slim pickings. One of them MoneyBookers is far worse fraudster than Paypal. Basically, you’ll be lucky to ever see your money again.
I just canceled both Amazon and Paypal.
May I put in a good word for Mondoweiss choosing a dark color for the T-shirt on behalf of the zillions of us who don’t like to use bleach.
Don’t cancel Paypal completely lightly, Les. There are a lot of good causes that one cannot easily support without Paypal. Just avoid using Paypal where possible.
Phil and Adam,
December is a bad time for fundraising. People have to buy Christmas gifts, you know. No wonder you have such a low response.
hi Saleema, we’re actually doing pretty good, we’ll make further annoucnement on monday, phil
Good to hear
I just updated the counter as of last night. Thanks everyone it’s a great start, still a way to go!
Hi, this is my first post but I wanted to say I considered this donation to be my Christmas present to myself, so maybe if you have someone with everything that uses this site maybe you could make a donation in their name.
Please post a snail mail address.
Hi lysias, sorry just seeing this now. Here is a postal address:
The Nation Institute
116 East 16th Street, 8th Floor
New York, NY 10003
Checks should be made payable to “The Nation Institute – Mondoweiss”
Thanks!
Just a note: checks take a long time to process, a couple months last time for me. But I won’t use Paypal. (Or Amazon)
I couldn’t resist the opportunity to double my donation for a very worth cause. Mondoweiss has certainly given me much more information and good reading and support during the past year than $100 worth.
I was asked “can you really afford that?” The answer is…if you look at my bank account and expenses….including holiday gifts….the answer is “NO” However if I cut down $1, $5 or $10 on each gift I buy…do the same with my groceries, etc. each week this month I’ll be closing in on the $100 and by continuing the cutting back during January, I should cover the $100. What better way to arrive at a $200 donation for something I believe in?
Now I’m wondering if I shouldn’t do this all year long. Maybe, if I keep it up, I can even go to Gaza in 2011.
susan.
check your email.
After the donation matching is over, will you guys be selling t shirts?
That’s a good question, and idea. We haven’t talked about it, but it’s certainly something we should think about.
Toss in baseball caps too. It’s done for just about anything in our culture, things worth a lot less than Mondoweiss, which is a very important enterprise Americans should know about.
