How did Labor Zionism, bent on liberating Jewish workers in Poland, end up discriminating against migrant workers?

Here is Noa Galili in Ynet struggling nobly against a really racist deal in Israel: not allowing migrant workers to have romantic relationships.

Just compare this policy with the writings of the Labor Zionists in Poland 90 years ago, stressing the need of Jewish workers to have dignity, and they should go to Palestine to achieve it. What horrifying hypocrisy, yes? The spiritual problem with Zionism is that it is so selfish; it reflects a Jewish desire to deal with the oppressions of Europe by taking care of ourselves. And this is not how the world works in the 21st century. I celebrate all Jews who are trying to help Israel and Jews generally out of that selfishness. Galili:

Op-ed: Israel only Western country banning migrant workers from engaging in romantic relationships. By Noa Galili

The UN committee to abolish discrimination against women has recently published its conclusions. One prominent area of their report was the way Israel treats its migrant workers, and in particular the Ministry of Interior’s controversial regulation – which states that if a foreign worker is caught in a romantic relationship, her work visa will be denied. Yes, you read that right. The essence of a migrant worker, their whole existence and purpose is in a simple definition: They are here to work. Only to work….

These workers are not machines or robots but living, breathing human beings who are entitled, just like us, to fall in love and have relationships, and to celebrate Valentine’s Day in any way that they desire with the people they choose to be with.
