The naked lobby: ‘Pressing Israel in U.N. remains a U.S. taboo’

From the JTA, that’s a quote from their headline:

Republicans and Democrats both said that using the United Nations to pressure Israel was out of bounds. Leading members of both parties — including Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the minority whip — urged the president last week to veto “any U.N. Security Council resolution that criticizes Israel regarding final status issues.”

Is anyone really suprised? When it comes to foreign policy of the US, the Israeli lobby doesn’t merely have influence over the US, the lobby has ripped a hole in Uncle Sam’s chest, jammed its fist up through his neck, and is moving his mouth like a bloody puppet.

Politicians are practitioners of the art of first making, then breaking, promises. Someday they may break their implicit promise to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States Israel. But in the mean time, the USA has consistently broken its promise to “ensure respect for the present Convention in all circumstances” referring to the Fourth Geneva Convention, which makes Israel’s settlers illegal within occupied territories; and the USA’s stupid, duplicitous “argument” that non-VETO (of recent draft UNSC res) would injure chances for peace ignores that even a sure-thing for peace would still fall within “all circumstances”, and the so-called “peace process” is anything but a sure-thing mechanism for securing a just and lasting peace.

Pressuring Israel in anyway by congress, etc is taboo in the U.S.
