Israeli flag is dropped off at Colo. legislator’s office in the nick of time

Kyle Glazier reports in the Denver Post on a speech by Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren to the Colorado legislature before it convened. Notice how Oren plays on the ethnic cleansing of the U.S., the unstated message is, Hey you committed genocide, who are you to judge? The Israel-lobby morsel in my headline is in the last paragraph of the Glazier excerpt.

Oren said Coloradans and Israelis share a legacy as “frontier societies” whose early people faced many dangers.

While Coloradans are much safer today, Oren said Israel continues to face threats to its existence from hostile Arab nations who will not recognize Israel as a Jewish state, as well as the constant threat of terrorism.

“We face terror,” Oren told the assembled crowd on the first floor of the Capitol. “Terror every day.”

Senate Joint Resolution 27, adopted unanimously by both the House and Senate, praises Israel as an isolated democracy in the Middle East and recognizes “a strong affinity” between the people of Israel and the people of Colorado. The resolution also recognizes Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people.

The resolution ruffled a few feathers. Denver resident Rima Sinclair, a Palestinian-American who has lived in the U.S. for 25 years, said she spent much of the week trying to get answers about why members of the Muslim community were not allowed to add input to the resolution.

What does that say to us as citizens?” Sinclair asked.

Sinclair said she was upset that Sen. Mike Kopp, R-Littleton, had an Israeli flag in his office when she went to speak to him about the resolution earlier in the week. Kopp’s office responded that the flag had just been dropped-off, and was only there so it could be placed at the breakfast held for Oren today….
