I’m catching up on everything. Traveling, burnout, etc. Forgive me if you saw this already. From the Onion, three days ago.

Government Official Who Makes Perfectly Valid, Well-Reasoned Point Against Israel Forced To Resign

This also is about the Israel lobby, I’ve decided not to shut up about the Israel lobby because I believe in the Israel lobby. Medea Benjamin of–please join them on the streets–is giving me courage. The other day she introduced John Mearsheimer and Steve Walt by pooh-poohing their work in the defense establishment and then saying that a guest stayed at her house and asked why there were two copies of The Israel Lobby next to the bed. Because that’s our bible, she said, except we read this one!

The Onion! Priceless. A spoof. Try Googling “Nelson Milstrand” to see how many sites have picked this up. Hilarious. And hits the nail so squarely on the head. AIPAC was asked about it and said, “It’s a spoof, but Ouch!” Hillary Clinton said, “Touché!”

(The real Milstrand said, “What’s ‘The Onion’?”) (So after a while, did a whole lot of fooled web-sites.)

And, Clinton-Onion goes on to say, “U.S. policy toward Israel continues to be one of unconditional support and fawning sycophancy.” Don’t know how mainstream The Onion is, but this is so perfect, like those late-night “news” programs that are beginning to hit the nail on the head.

Thanks. This was duly sent off into cyberspace for more people to read.

We should appreciate this all the more, knowing just how main stream the Onion is.

It’s great satire. But until the ill influence of the status-quo lobbies isn’t known to the general population, and talked about in the open, satire is not enough. Virtually everyone who is cool and hip knows about how “evil” these fundamentalist Christians are etc. But few know about the status-quo lobbies when it comes to Israel, because the topic isn’t popularized, it’s not leaving the academic and activist circles.

Case in point: Everyone knows about this current Rapture thing, they read it in most newspapers, saw it on TV. They see there are crazy Christians around. But when do they read or see a report of some settler nutjob? Joke about him and his belief on Facebook?

the crazy thing about the current rapture crazies is that some of the most infamous Zionist Christians had previously made false predictions on Rapture predictions -super influential Zionist Christians like Hal Lindsey, Chuck Smith/ Calvary Chapel. Yet no one seems to be making the connection that all these false teachers/ prophets/ profits/ profiteering are from the same clothe of wolves in sheep clothes as the current predictor.

The Onion is often very incisive. This particular article is case and point.
