The map Martha stewart is using to plan her Israel trip. See the green line? neither do we. (h/t Maureen Murphy)

“Despite the horrible hurricane, a life must go on. Planning a wonderful trip to Israel!”

Martha Stewart’s tweet. Haaretz says it could be soon. The Israeli Ministry of Tourism is organizing and funding the trip as part of a push to include the Dead Sea as one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Arch zionist Jonathan Freedland provides a blueprint for the economic assault on Israel . Except he calls it Syria.

    link to guardian.co.uk

” Rather than waiting for an uprising to begin, says Ross, outsiders could embark on any combination of these three steps, depending on the circumstances: “Boycott, Isolate, Sabotage.”

So Gaddafi/BIBI could have been shunned, rather than embraced by Tony Blair while his sons were feted in London. We might have mounted cyber attacks on the colonel’s infrastructure. Ross cites approvingly the Stuxnet computer worm, which has wreaked such havoc with Iran’s nuclear programme. Such methods entailed no violence and yet might have hastened Gaddafi’s downfall – and are applicable to today’s Syria./ISRAEL The target would emphatically not be the Syrian people but the Assad /IDFregime, restricting the travel and freezing the bank accounts of the key players, making their lives difficult if not impossible.

But Ross goes further. Yes, there are non-violent routes that governments fail to pursue. But why leave it all to the politicians? “Why do we think that all we can do is write to an MP or sign a petition?” Ross asked when I spoke to him today. “I used to think those were mechanisms of action. I don’t anymore.”
Instead, he suggests individuals can act, especially in concert with others. Such talk sounds fanciful until he recalls the example of the Spanish civil war, when 30,000 foreign volunteers went to fight for the republic. Ross asks the question: “Why do people not do that anymore?” He’s not suggesting a stampede of Brits to Syria – though he says that “when I was 22 I might have done it” – but he is laying down a challenge. Why not boycott companies that trade with DamascusISRAEL? Or lend your bandwidth to an effort like Access Now, whose “proxy cloud” enables internet users in repressive states to reach blocked sites? Hackers might even want to help the Anonymous effort to launch “distributed denial of service” attacks on Syrian/ISRAELI government websites. Just as governments have come to believe their only tool is force, so citizens have come to believe only governments can stand in the path of a foreign tyranny. But they might be wrong.
The white-coated scientist would be tempted to stand back and do nothing for Syria/GAZA, for the sake of the purity of the experiment – to see whether Syrians can liberate themselves unaided. But this is no cold, academic inquiry. Lives are at stake. Even if there is to be no military help for the people of Syria/GAZA , that does not mean we have to do nothing. We can act – and we surely must.”

    From the article:

“…as well as the Dead Sea, where she is expected to support the Dead Sea’s candidacy to be included as one of the world’s seven natural wonders.”

High salinity is a wonder??? An endorheic basin that has concentrated ocean water is interesting, geographically, for sure, but it’s no Grand Canyon; no Mount Everest.

Woody, I don’t like the Dead Sea being used for hasbara, but the place is a unique geographical site. It would be nice if Israel treated it with respect. The Dead Sea is drying up under Israeli stewardship.

Light, I don’t disagree that it is a very interesting and unique geographic features of the Earth. It is just not one of the seven most wondrous features.

    • Pamela Olson
      August 31, 2011, 4:32 pm

Did she include that map herself? I assumed Phil and Adam did to highlight the fact that Israeli maps virtually never acknowledge the occupation in any way, showing the West Bank as simply a slightly less-developed part of Israel, with the settlements and their roads listed without commentary and Palestinian towns and cities either left out, put in a tiny font, or shaded in gray.

      • Woody Tanaka
        August 31, 2011, 4:56 pm

which is conclusive proof, in my opinion, that this is, in fact, one de facto state, that even it, itself admits, and that its failure to provide voting rights to all in that area means that out can no way be described as a democratic state.

        August 31, 2011, 11:43 pm

Which makes it Apartheid and they cannot argue it at all. Their status quo is no secret. Unofficially outside of Israel and officially inside of Israel, it is all one state. Officially outside Israel the Palestinian territories are occupied so nobody can call Apartheid, or so they think.

No matter how many celebrities attempt to cover for apartheid and ethnic cleansing, they are only damaging their own brand. Israel’s
dark vortex is it’s occupation and ethnic cleansing, nothing can change that, except changing their policy, -no magic lipstick can cover up this pig. And these people like Stewart (or Elton John) only
    tarnish their image.

This PR stunt is probably part of a greater negotiations package for her career – and she looks unnatural holding the map. Weill’s brokering this deal on for Israeli tourism department. What’s in it for her?

      August 31, 2011, 8:01 pm

Doesn’t she have some kind of house goods lines with Wmart or Kmart or Target? No doubt someone made her a deal.

Anyway I now have to include her in my book, titled “Who the Hell Are These People”? Put her in the chapter with Bachman and Palin.

yes, a New England WASP of her standing is by default usually anti-jewish, and she’s not totally unaware of the conflict in the region, so why would she go there and publicize the trip – very suspicious indeed – her choices haven’t been so great in the later years of her life – count this as a colossal blunder … she’ll see soon enough

With maps like this, people are going to start talking more about a one-state solution, and less about a two-state solution.

It’s one of those beautiful ironies of domination – on one hand, those exercising domination wish to boast of their own exploits. On the other hand, they must find ways to legitimize their exploitation.

Whose idea & plan is this? Martha…Hmmm??? Why Martha & others???

AIPAC / ADL & Israel… with all their PR agents and resources will use Martha Stewart and others for Israel’s PR goals/objectives.

Many American viewers will be watching Martha echoing “Israel/Zoinism’s” scripted narratives on a daily basis… all for Israel’s benefits/goals!

September is a crucial month for PR & damage control!

    • Charon
      August 31, 2011, 11:50 pm

They need all the help they can get. ADL is actually pre-occupied with 9/11 conspiracy theories at the moment. They may not be popular round these parts at all, but I recommend viewing “War By Deception” on youtube which is actually mentioned in the ADL article. It’s not just about 9/11 but mostly on the neocons and the war in Iraq. Mostly circumstantial evidence, but there is a lot of it and when you put it all together it doesn’t paint a pretty picture. Again, it isn’t popular around here but anybody brushing off people who reject the propaganda and the incomplete official version full of anomalies is not doing their country a favor. Something is missing, something big. People who ask questions shouldn’t be smeared and the ones smearing them better have a good reason besides they believe the MSM. As we’ve seen with I/P, only a fool would believe the MSM at face value

Golda Meir, when prime minister, said that the Palestinians did not exist, adding in 1971 that Israel’s “borders are determined by where Jews live, not where there is a line on a map.” At the same time she ordered that the Green Line, Israel’s border until the 1967 war, be erased from all official maps. That’s why for Israelis there is no occupation and there is only one state and its been like that for 40 years. But of course you don’t read about this in the NY Times or from Thomas Friedman!

    • Charon
      August 31, 2011, 11:59 pm

If that were the case in 1948, less than 5% of Palestine would be Israel.

Also, if that is the case today I guess NYC is part of Israel too

Gold Meir was an American school teacher who became PM of Israel. I guess the position isn’t very picky or serious (obviously if Begin, Sharon, and Netanyahu can be PM….)

She’s my favorite PM only because she showed her cards. During the Yom Kippur war in 1973, Israel was nearly defeated because it was the only war that they didn’t provoke or pre-empt. They chose the best day of the year to attack, and Meir pleaded with Kissinger (another war criminal) for aid. Israel used the code word “fall of the third temple” code for their nukes and prepared them to target Syria and Egypt. That’s right, this tiny little country run by fascists and paranoid brainwashed people has nukes and they threatened to use them so we helped them out. This is why Israel is no laughing matter, they are the only country in the world stupid enough to destroy it just to save themselves. Selfish Zionists.

You took it from my mouth, mmm245. I was just about to post it. :)

“Sygmunt Bauman, the Jewish sociologist and one of the greatest philosophers of our time, castigated Israel harshly this week, saying it did not want peace and was afraid of it.

Bauman said Israel was “taking advantage of the Holocaust to legitimize unconscionable acts,” and compared the separation fence to the walls surrounding the Warsaw Ghetto, in which hundreds of thousands of Jews perished in the Holocaust. “

Evidenlty Martha is pulling out the stops for a “media” career on TV–probably has something to do her sudden liking of Israel.
But Martha was no WASP, she was middle class Polish catholic girl accoding to her bio….with a lot of ambition and liked rich men.

Actually, Dead Sea is OK on the list of 7/28 wonders. I know several wonders from that list, and yes, they are OK, but not THAT impressive. Masurian Lake District? Nice spot for summer scout camp (very good spot for summer scout camp!), but so are Adirondacks. Bay of Fundy? Yea, interesting. Black Forest?

Dead Sea has at least a record: most depressive place on Earth. One can easily imagine tematic eco-tours like that one. Unless some do-gooders will wage a campaign to “Save the Dead Sea” and will pressure Israel to restore the flow of water in Jordan. “Polnyi Uzhas Tours” to sites of ecological, human and religious catastrophes in the Holy Land.

Add her to the BDS list. I love it how the ignorant and illiterate get to represent Israel’s worst acts in positive light and the public laps it up. My suspicion is she may be planning some sort of a Ahava type cosmetic line. Keep watching.
