Elliott Abrams seems to think that Obama is anti-Semitic (and so does Newt Gingrich)

In his book Faith or Fear (1997) Elliott Abrams expresses considerable suspicion of black Americans’ attitudes toward Jews. “Anti-Semitism appears to be growing among American blacks… [Louis Farrakhan’s] message has received a sympathetic hearing from all too many black audiences–not least on college campuses, where tomorrow’s black elites are being educated,” and this concern seems to motivate his post on the Sarkozy/Obama snub, at the Council of Foreign Relations, which snidely paints Europe and the U.S. as anti-Semitic. The undercurrent of Abrams’s remarks is that there is nothing that Netanyahu can do to affect his relationship with these western leaders, they hate the “Jewish State.” And, implicitly, they refuse to deal with a Jew on equal terms.

If this were only a matter of personal relations between Obama and Netanyahu, it could be left at that. But it is far more consequential, for by that comment—and especially as it was made in private and can be interpreted as his actual view—President Obama has joined the chorus of assaults on the Jewish State. We only have one president at a time and they only have one prime minister. To treat the prime minister of Israel in this way is disgraceful.

In the very week that he moves on outposts—something Sharon and Olmert completely failed to do—he is called names by the French and the insults are apparently accepted and approved by the Americans. The advice to Bibi would have to be “forget it. Forget the possibility that Obama will ever treat you fairly. Forget the idea that he will give you a fair shake or pay attention to what you are actually doing.”

Oh, update, thanks to Mark Wauck: Newt Gingrich all but accuses Sarkozy of anti-Semitism. And implies as much about Obama and the east coast “elites.”

And yet their nasty comments are aimed at Netanyahu? I mean, it tells you just what’s wrong with the elites in Europe, and frankly, the elites in the United States.

Now Mr. Obama made the anti-Semitic list.
Along with “the French”.

These jerks are going to create it in people who never even thought it was possible to think that way.

This is what I have been trying to point out. It’s called Crying Wolf.

Didn’t anyone ever read them these fairy tales?

It’s called self-fulling prophecy and has been the subject of countless psychological papers.

They will have no one to blame but themselves. You can’t keep calling someone a cheat and a meanie without consequence.

It wakes up the base. If you’re Jewish and don’t follow politics and you hear that a candidate is anti-semitic, you’ll think twice about pulling the lever, or touching that option on the touchscreen.

It’s classic neocon trash, repeat it whether it’s true or not as long as you sway a few votes. Evil stuff from an evil guy.

The one person who can faithfully forget that Elliott Abrams was a convicted felon is his wife which may explain why he relies on her for his ideas.

Once again, its the people themselves, screaming about anti-semitism, who get in the way of their own argument. Most people who follow politics/political ideologies and discourse think Elliot Abrams is an asshole. Even more people think this about Gingrich, Kristol and the rest of the neo-cons.

So, to a lot of people “anti-semitism” is now becoming a partisan issue, like “voter fraud.” It has also become, like “voter fraud,” a dog whistle issue. “voter fraud” means ” lets not have non whites vote” – “anti-semitism” has come to mean, “let Israel do whatever it wants – the goy can F themselves/ I need campaign or foundation donations.”
